Needle Stick Injuries among Nursing Students
1. Introduction A penetrating swab wound from a needle that may result in contact to blood or other body fluids called needle stick injury. Needle stick injuries are very common and often severe between nursing students. Many students injured themselves on hospital placements in lack of supervision and insufficient information which may result in serious health issues. These kinds of injuries affect student’s ability to work; therefore they lose confidence and face several kind of problems regarding their nursing career. I have chosen this topic to find the factors which encourage NSI because this is a very serious and life threatening issue.

On the other hand, injuries were more regular especially among our nurse students while disposal of the needle as compared with the needle recapping. Needle recapping was the main problem for the year 3 students claiming 42.9% of injuries of this student group. This number of injury was eminent to fall as the course progress to reach, therefore only 14.3% of all injuries reported by fifth year students. Overall 11.7% of NSIs occurred during recapping and were exclusively described with use of the conservative syringes. In the same way, the discarding of the needle was more hazardous among the conservative syringe users (74.1%) as compared with the safety syringe users (25.9%).
It has been proved with research that the needle stick injury always has been a big issue among student nurses and health care workers. There should be some more steps taken to avoid this serious
