Basic Information on the Organization

The organization that I choose to write my Organizational Paper on is the National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA). The IPRA is a professional association that represents over 50,000 members. The members include everyone from directors, agency superintendents, and volunteers. The IPRA also works with a large group of professional partners.
The mission statement of the NRPA is: To advance parks, recreation and environmental conservation efforts that enhance the quality of life for all people.
The NRPA has many resources at its disposal. The biggest and most important is the knowledge they have on the environment. With a goal of educating people on healthy lifestyles, and environmental stewardships, knowledge is the most important resource in fulfilling this mission. This is also a resource that will never run out. Organization members are passionate about what they do and are always continually learning. Another resource they have at their disposal are the parks themselves. Through conservation and sustainable practices, they are able to be involved in environmental stewardship. This resource is threatened everyday with climate change as well as the ever-growing United States population and expanding cities through the country.

The NRPA has to fight both for and against legislature that affects its everyday mission. Some of the pieces of legislation include protecting tax policies that support outdoor recreation and conservation. As well as the Personal Health Investment Today Act which includes physical activity as a preventative medicine and uses pre-tax dollars to include expenditures such as gym memberships, adult and youth sports fees as well as exercise classes.
