I smile every time I hold a basketball now. I smile for the joy and pain that this game gives me, but more importantly, for the man it made me become. October 31st, 2012 was a sunny day. Cheers of the crowd echoed over the entire school. It was the quarterfinals for our school-wide basketball tournament. I had already put up 14 points. Undoubtedly, I was the star of the game. I saw the frustration in my opponent’s eyes, as if he knew his defense couldn’t stop me. The game has just gotten started, I said to myself in confidence. The other team missed a jump shot and the ball bounced my way. I glanced at my defender as he was making a move. There is no way you are getting this rebound, I thought with determination.
