There are many diverse propagandas in our society. My favorite would have to be the name calling propaganda technique because it relates to me so much because of my past childhood experiences. Name calling is an act of intentional hate towards a person and it’s an impolite childish act. There are many things to learn from this interesting propaganda as it is mentioned everywhere and happens almost anywhere. This is also my favorite propaganda because it is the most well-known technique in our society. An example scenario for name calling would be a smart student being called a nerd. Propaganda is information that is biased to promote one point of view. Propaganda is mostly used during political campaigns. It is one of the most widely used and effective political tactics. It gives its user the opportunity to move people to action in both positive and negative ways, by either bringing fame or shame to a selected person or idea. Propaganda is used to sell a candidate or a belief to the public, by ruining the opponent’s chances of winning, or by falsely advertising an idea of their own as better than one of their opponents.
The first type of propaganda is stereotypes. Stereotypes is a widely held but fixed and oversimplified or idea of a particular type of person or thing. A excellent example of how it is used I the play is how Goody Osborne is accused of being a witch just because she is poor. In act one Tetuba was accused of being a witch and when she realized that she was not going to change Parris’s mind, she accused two people that did not have a lot of money or friends. Those two were Goody Good and Goody Osborne, and Parris believed her because he assumed that it was truth just because they were poor. Ever since the beginning of pro football there has been mascots and different team names. Nobody ever cared of how the mascots looked or acted or what the team names were really about. Now in a world of racism and discrimination that all changes. The mascots are all of a sudden racist and team names counted as poor representation.
The base of all propaganda is to shape the information in such a manner that it manipulates the viewers into believing what the propaganda wants them to believe. Its persuasive techniques are regularly applied in day-to-day life by politicians, advertisers, journalists, and others who are interested in influencing human behavior. Since propaganda is used with misleading information, it can be concluded that it is not a fairly used tool in the society.
Human rights violations, unfortunately, have been common in all parts of the world for thousands of years. Not all abuses lead to world attention or mass causalities, but large-scale tragedies that do gain notice often involve the use of propaganda. Propaganda has often been used to promote an individual leader, political party or government’s agenda, which will often tyrannize specific groups. The definition of propaganda according to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary and for this paper is, “the spreading of ideas, information, or rumor for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, a cause, or a person.” One of the major questions many have when investigating the causes of genocide and why average citizens often accept and at time tolerate mass violence and permit their friends and neighbors rights to be taken away. To understand this issue we must look to past examples of propaganda that demoralized and demonized entire communities that eventually lead to genocide. During the Nazi rule in Germany and the genocide in Rwanda in the mid-1990s there have been clear cases where misinformation has been used in order promote violence and repress the rights of citizens. More often than not, similar manipulation and deception techniques have been used during these periods to oppress the basic rights of groups and individuals. Germany and Rwanda both exercised comparable methods such as emotional manipulation, media and demonization of minority/weaker groups in order to harm/eliminate large sectors of the population. Overall, propaganda is often a tool used to commit massive manipulation and rationalization for large-scale human rights violations.
Propaganda, a form of communication, uses a variety of techniques to persuade a population in a negative or positive way toward an idea, position, or political agenda. This goal is often achieved by using misleading information. This use of advertising forms an opinion or set of beliefs and ideas in the audience’s mind that the creator of the piece is attempting to formulate. The 1942 World War II poster, Rosie the Riveter, is a prime example of propaganda due to the portrayal of a strong, leading woman that persuaded millions of women into joining the United States workforce during war time. With the help of this poster, the number of working women rose from 14.6 million to 19.4 million in just 3 years (Shmoop Editorial Team, 2008).

When power is left in the hands of people, hungry for their names to be the next god, they will defy every rule in order to achieve their goal. The use of lies and bending the truth in order to gain sustenance from others come into play. At this point the device of propaganda is used through the several ways in order to confirm the lies told. Propaganda is a tool widely used to lure people into believing things that may not always be true- Joseph Stalin used this tactic in various ways to keep his reign on the soviet as does the infamous terrorist group, ISIS; George Orwell portrays this message successfully by using the character Napoleon and his trustee, Squealer, to feed his citizens lies of his past and future of the farm.
Propaganda plays a role in persuading people into thinking a certain way or encouraging the viewer to purchase an item, take action, or follow an ideology. The advertiser achieves in influencing viewers through their tone, choice of words or lack of where instead a powerful image is used. The MTA advertisement “New Yorkers Keep New York Safe”, released on March 2016, shows how propaganda influences commuters to combat terrorism by ‘saying something’.

What does the word propaganda really mean? For most of us we assume that it is a word for negativity use. Just to assure those that think of propaganda as a negative word. Propaganda does have a positive objective if used correctly. The word propaganda is defined in a few different ways, But in the most general usage, it varies from bad to good persuasion of our minds. It is used during election time to our daily lives on television to our newspaper stands. According to Donna Cross’s essay, “Propaganda: How Not to Be Bamboozled,” there are thirteen different types of propaganda; this paper will discuss six varieties. George W. Bush and Dick Cheney used primarily every sort of propaganda to influence the citizens; therefore, our national society needs to develop awareness in the propaganda used by such politicians so that they can make wise decisions intelligently.
What constitutes a hate crime? What makes a hate crime different from a crime or are they one in the same. If you believe that there is a different between a hate crime and a crime, then how can we legislate hate crimes fairly and without bias on a consist basis? When it comes to hate crimes their seems to be more questions then answers and there also seems to be a lot of uncertainty within the law itself. Hate crime laws should no longer exist in are justice system because every violent crime involves an element of hate and it is impossible to prove a person’s motive or hate in the court of law.
