3. EVENT DESCRIPTION 3.1 Objectives The main objectives of our event, ‘SOLDIER ON, NAIDOC’ is to create cultural awareness, promote reconciliation and to increase non-indigenous Australian’s knowledge of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. We wish to host a NAIDOC festival that will not only entertain guests but educate them too. We feel that an ‘Educational Festival’ would be the best way to achieve this. We would like to pay particular attention to the official NAIDOC week theme ‘Celebrating Country, Centenary & Beyond’ by educating attendees of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participation in the Frontier and World Wars. Our secondary objective as per the Client’s briefing, is to promote and raise the profile of the Koolark Centre for Aboriginal Students. Focusing on Koolark’s courses, central accessibility and student support services. They would also like to utilise and promote the skills of their students at our event. The third objective is shared by both the Client and ourselves as we wish to exceed previous years NAIDOC events by increasing attendance, sponsors and participants while keeping within the assigned budget. 3.2 Scope of the event The client has asked us to host a two day NAIDOC week event for approximately 500 PAX, on the 18 and 19 June 2014 during the lunch break (between 1100 and 1400) at the Northbridge campus of Central Institute of Technology. They wish to have the standard formalities such as a Welcome to Country speech and Flag raising ceremony, but also want entertainment such as dance performances. They have asked for workshops and traders to take part in the event, along with other members of the community such as Noongar radio 100.9FM. They would also like to utilis... ... middle of paper ... ...nal event to members of the various industries that attend. Central’s community is diverse with many different cultures attending. With our event – SOLDIER ON, NAIDOC, we hope challenge old stereotypes with new ideas and experiences. We also hope to create awareness for international students who may be unfamiliar with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. And as part of Central, volunteers and the students of the Diploma of Events class are quite a keen stakeholder as we wish for success in this event to validate our newly learned skills and knowledge. Suppliers, contractors, workshop staff and traders also have a stake in the success of the event as it will help promote their business and create awareness for NAIDOC week. This also applies for the Performers such as the musical and dance groups to show their talents and promote their companies.
