NORAD Background/Causes of Event: After World War two tensions between Capitalist America and Communist Russia were high. A cold war began when the two super powers began to build more powerful, technology advanced, and for lack of a better word, better weapons. After VJ Day Russia knew what America was capable of and began to stock-pile nuclear weapons. Fear of attack America did the same thinking that no one would want to attack a nation with a larger military power. Both countries spent billions each year of military power and after all that, both countries were at a standstill. Though the nations repeated one of the underlying causes from world war one no actual fighting ever happened. Proxy wars were fought, supplying countries that for …show more content…
On May 12, 1958 the first NORAD agreement was signed by the government of Canada and America. NORAD is a bilingual initiative to protect both Canada and the United States. NORAD was established to monitor and if needed, defend North American airspace. Whether it is space crafts, missiles, or aircrafts, NORAD warns us from an imminent attack. Each NORAD renewal changes the mission slightly but by far one of the biggest was the last NORAD agreement renewal in 2006 which made these changes. • It created a permanent NORAD Agreement which meant that there would be no need to future renewals and that both countries agree to the responsibilities of the bi-national defence alliance. Furthermore, signing this new agreement means that both countries “are in”. to that affect a country must give a year’s notice to their …show more content…
Physical assets like fighter jets and weapons, personnel which includes Canadian Armed Forces serving in both Canada and America and financial resources are all given to NORAD to help protect North America. The largest contribution to NORAD is the North Warning System which is a chain of radar stations along the northern edge of North America. Even though both countries continuously renew and agree to be a part of NORAD, the Canadian and U.S. governments still have the final say on issues that relate to their own defence and can respond in whatever way they feel is best for their country. Significance of NORAD: The significance and importance of NORAD is quite obvious, protect. Canada and the U.S. both obtain a lot from each other. Canada receives tremendous benefits from its relationship with America through NORAD, these include: • heightened protection from a military attack; • awareness into U.S. thinking on security matters • training and operational experience that helps North America, the UN, and NATO • access to U.S. test facilities which helped the Canadian Armed Forces develop many technologies • help stimulate around 50,000 Canadian defence and aerospace jobs
A war does not necessarily require physical weapons to fight. From 1947 to 1991, military tension and ideological conflicts held place. Cold War is defined as a state of political hostility existing between countries, characterized by threats, violent propaganda, subversive activities, and other measures short of open warfare, in particular. The causes of the Cold War between United States and the Soviet Union were the mutual distrust that had taken place in World War II, intense rivalry between the two super powers, and conflicting ideologies. The two superpowers differed in views of political and economic principles and were eager to spread their ideologies to other countries. The United States were in favor of democracy and capitalism while the Soviet Union sought for the chances of influencing communism. Cold War did not involve the use of physical arms but was intensely fought. Propaganda, economic aids, Arms Race, and the creation of alliances were the main methods to fight the war. The use of propaganda played a crucial role in containment by criticizing the other power and raised the morale and spirit of their nation. The economic support for nations helped them recover from the desperate situation after World War II, which prevented the nations from falling under communism. Also, the Arms Race and forming alliances between the two main powers were important weapons for competition and rivalry in Cold War.

...with the United Nations has seemed to get the job done, this doesn’t just look good to us Canadians but it also helps when it comes to developing relationships with other countries, it signifies to these nations that we are there to help and not to cause conflict which tends to result in some peacekeeping operations.
The Cold War was a post-World War II struggle between the United States. and its allies and the group of nations led by the Soviet Union. Direct military conflict did not occur between the two superpowers, but intense economic and diplomatic struggles erupted in the country. Different interests led to mutual suspicion and hostility in a rising philosophy. The United States played a major role in the ending of the Cold War.
In 1958, an agreement called the North American Air Defence was signed. This agreement between Canada and the United States ensured that the two nations would defend and fight for each other if under attack. The NORAD headquarters, located in Colorado, was initially created in 1948, but it was not until 1951, when it was successfully re-established. The headquarters would not only protect the US, but also protected Canada by using the Distant Early Warning system. The “DEW line” consisted of stations with radar antennae in the Northwest Territories, which would detect aircraft, missiles and unidentified objects from about 4800 kilometres away. Then, the headquarters would be notified, and will respond appropriately, with either defensive weapons, or offensive.
During World War II, the United States and Soviet Union fought together as allies against the Axis powers. However, the relationship between the two was increasingly tense. The US had been concerned about Soviet communism and of Joseph Stalin’s tyrannical rule of Russia. The Soviets did not like the Americans refusal to treat the USSR as a part of the international community as well as their delayed entry into World War II, which costed thousands of deaths of Russians. After the war ended, these grievances turned into a sense of mutual distrust between the two. The Soviets expansion in Eastern Europe fueled many Americans’ fears of a possible Russian plan to try to take over. Although many people believe that the Cold War began off of no one
DHS accomplishes this by receiving customs revenue (i.e import tax on goods brought into the U.S.); providing security for maritime safety, and law enforcement interdiction.
The Cold War was a time between 1947 to 1991 in which tensions between two of the largest superpowers of the world were at an all time high: United State of America and the Soviet Union. The war never had a true battlefield between the two, but traces of each the superpowers could be found in many of the wars at the time directly or indirectly like: the Vietnam War, Korean War, and etc. Though the feud didn’t always happen on the battleground. The Soviet Union and United States faced off in expanding their power of their technology and economy at the time, which led to events like the Space Race, Nuclear Arms Race, and even globalization in the countries. Some of the new technologies like computers, space shuffles, and satellites were just some
