West Virginia University's hard-hitting Karl Joseph was selected 14th overall in the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday by the Oakland Raiders. Joseph is a physical, smart, play-making safety who is a team player and plays with passion for the game. He is versatile enough to play in the box against the run as well as play in coverage. In his career with the Mountaineers, Joseph had nine interceptions. Five of those came in four games last season before injuring his knee. The 5-foot-10, 205-pound safety is the fourth WVU defender to be taken in the first round of the NFL Draft and the first since Bruce Irvin was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the 2012. Oakland lost nine-time Pro Bowler Charles Woodson, who retired after a stellar …show more content…
The Raiders added safety Reggie Nelson and cornerback Sean Smith in free agency. Head Coach Jack Del Rio told SiriusXM NFL Radio earlier in April that the team would look to add talent at the safety spot. With Allen's health concerns and Oakland allowing an NFL-high 12 receiving touchdowns by tight ends last season, Joseph could make an immediate impact. “We need to acquire some people there, we’re going to make it more competitive throughout this offseason we’ll continue to monitor availability as free agents, we’ll continue to monitor and prepare ourselves for the draft,” he said. “To me, you have to acquire talent, you have to acquire guys who can get it done in the back end and be able to make plays. It helps if you have veteran experience but it’s not a must-have if you acquire talent.” The Raiders' secondary struggled at times last season. According to Football Outsiders, the Panthers were second in the NFL in pass defense DVOA (defense-adjusted value over average), which measures a team’s efficiency by comparing success on every single play to a league average based on situation and opponent. The Raiders were 16th. With the additions of Smith, Nelson and Joseph Oakland's secondary is in a much better
After a friend introduced Joseph to boxing at Brewster's East Side Gymnasium, he fell in love with it. To keep his mom from finding out about his boxing, he shortened his name to Joe Louis, eventually she found out. A couple years later with his success in the amatuer boxing scene, Joseph met John Roxborough who became his lifelong manager. As a result of joining forces with John Roxborough, Julian Black was hired as a fight promoter and Jack Blackburn as Joseph’s trainer. His first fight was scheduled on July 4, 1934, where he kayoed his opponent Jack Kracken. Hereafter until the end of 1935, Joseph had already been in 14 fights. Those 14 fights helped Joseph rack up nearly $370,000 in prize money.
Joseph was ordained into the priesthood in 1951. He was considered a highly knowledgeable theologian and was appointed a professor in 1958. His writings defended the Catholic doctrine and values.
Living in Waknuk makes it extremely easy to be controlled by your religion. Joseph was a very religious man towards his family and the community. In the community of Waknuk Joseph was considered the “Head Priest” of his religious group. Each time a deviation was notified Joseph would quickly stop everything he was doing to pray for forgiveness. Stopping everything to pray for forgiveness is a big thing considering that the deviations were not his. This shows that he does not want God or his religion to look down on himself. Lastly, Joseph is always trying to do his best because he believes God is always testing them. He shows that he does not want to upset God in any way. All of these examples show how religious Joseph truly is. Joseph Strorm was a devoted and completely reliant man upon his religion.
Unlike the Koran Joseph isn’t proven guilty or innocent. Instead Joseph willing decides to take his garment off. It stated, “and he left his garment in her hand and fled outside, she called out to the people of the house and said to them, saying, see, he has brought us a Hebrew man to play with us (The Hebrew Bible, 182).” It is clear that Joseph willingly took of his garment because he perhaps thought that would be a safe and quick way to remove himself from the situation. Little would he have imagined it would back fire and become the man reason he is thrown in
But make no mistake, with eight Pro Bowl selections as a cornerback, defense is where Sanders earns his big bucks. After intercepting 30 passes in his first six seasons, quarterbacks stopped throwing his way.
However, if Shepherd can find a way to step up his game and prove he is worth the long-term investment, making the final roster for the season or, at least, being assigned to the practice squad is a win for him. All of this will be contingent on the idea that he is healthy, but there is a sneaky strong reason to believe that he could surprise the coaching staff in training camp.

Dallas used some of the other picks they acquired picks the Vikings gave them to draft Kevin Smith, Dixon Edwards, and Alexander Wright. Some of the picks were used by Jimmy Johnson in subsequent trades. They would acquire the 1991's first overall pick, which led to the drafting of Russell Maryland (who won two national championships with University of Miami (FL) and won three Super Bowls while playing for the Cowboys). After the smoke had cleared, all the players that Dallas had gotten from the trade with the Vikings was an enormous contribution to what would become Dallas's dynasty, and is still considered to this day to be one of the biggest lopsided trades NFL history, if not of sports history. Some of the players that the Cowboys got in return from Minnesota were defensive players Isiac Holt, Jesse Solomon, Alex Stewart, and David Howard, as well as some players that Dallas would later trade away for many
In conclusion, there are many connections to be made between the life of Joseph and Jesus. They both encountered much adversity which then in turn resulted in the redemption of many. The difference is Joseph was able to help some and Jesus was salvation for
You can read his story in Genesis, Chapters 37-50. The first note of him concerns his ability to dream and interpret dreams. Joseph was a dreamer and he had a dream. His dream took at least two forms. In one version of his dream he was a sheave of wheat and his family were also sheaves of wheat that had been gathered at harvest and were waiting to be carried in to be stored. In Joseph’s dream, all the other bundles of wheat bowed down to his. In another version of his dream he was a star. Again, his family were also stars and heavenly bodies. Again, all the other stars and heavenly bodies bowed down to his star in his dream.
Alabama defensive end Jonathan Allen is a member of the most stout defensive front in college football. The junior defensive lineman led the Tide in sacks (12) and tackles for loss (14.5) this season as Allen has forced his name up draft boards. Allen recorded two sacks in Alabama’s obliteration of Michigan State in the Cotton Bowl, which coincidentally were his only two tackles in the game. If Allen can keep sustained pressure on the elusive Deshaun Watson, it could throw Clemson’s offensive rhythm off enough to help the Tide come out victorious Monday night.
In The Bible, the story of Joseph is a tale about a seventeen year old young man who was the oldest of his fathers' sons. He was also his father's favorite son. Joseph often had dreams which showed him as being a savior for his people. For this reason, he was sold into slavery by his own envious brothers. Joseph went on to make a better life for himself in Egypt, but it was not long before he was thrown into prison after being
The early drafts featured many forms of runners of the ball. This meant anywhere from backs, tail backs, blocking backs, and fullbacks. We know these positions today as half backs and fullbacks. In the early draft, there were fewer passing focused picks in contrast to today. It would be a Quarterback, Wide Receiver/Wing Backs, Cornerbacks, and pass rushers. The most evident change in the draft was in 2013, when not a single running back’s name was called on day one/round one of the draft. The 2013 draft wa...
