NEIU Personal Statement

During my first visit and experience of NEIU’s campus I was shocked and utterly amazed by the rich, vast amount of experiences it had to offer. Last November, It had been dwelling on my mind for quite some time to visit various campuses in lieu of my upcoming graduation in May of 2016. Finishing my Associate’s Degree in Computer Science from Triton College, Northeastern Illinois University became a point of interest for making my transition, offering the appeals of scholarship opportunities, undergraduate study programs and hope for my educational goals. Since young, I’ve always desired to find ways in which technology can create solutions for myself and other people. Thus, I began to pursue a degree in computer science, the field of IT and software development in order to continue learning ways in which technology from now and the upcoming future can be used and manipulated to improve the lives of people, the community and whomever else in the world could find it beneficial. I’ve had the great privilege of having met C.S. professionals and other teachers who have kept my passion on the subject well lit. My academic mentors from Triton suggested that I should consider NEIU since it had a solid path for me to continue studying computer science. From the various teachings coming from my mentors, I came to realize that anyone can easily learn about technology given the open-source tool for education that the internet has become; however, the most valuable lesson about success working in IT did not point out that it was about becoming extremely knowledgeable or skilled, but rather the ability to work, collaborate, and network with people to find solutions. I have without a doubt that being able to work and study along with the NEIU’s faculty, fellow classmates and students while also having the opportunity to live in the new campus dorms will be most beneficial to accomplish educational goals and success for coming up in the field of …show more content…

Before attending Triton College, I made an effort to be involved in extracurricular activities while attending East Leyden High School. I played first doubles in the Tennis Varsity Team until senior year, when I also became the team captain. I had also made it to the Cross-Country Varsity to run long distance. I participated in various clubs and the like. While at Triton College, I continued to participate in many clubs and organizations that the campus had to offer, including the Program Board to help make events, I became a Student Ambassador, a member of the honors society of Phi Theta Kappa, and then set my interests in the student government – the Triton College Student Association (TCSA). In my current prospects and given the opportunity to live on NEIU’s campus also has me looking forward to representing NEIU at Springfield during the 2017 Model Illinois Government (MIG) Simulation, another organization comprised of many universities and colleges in which I’ve become a well-recognized member of and student
