Growing up as a kid, I always loved playing the NCAA football games. To me, it was fun to be able to play as my favorite team. When I was younger I always dreamed of playing football for Mississippi State. The NCAA games gave me a chance to do that. As a lifelong fan of the NCAA games I was disappointed when I heard that they would not be making new games after 2014. Even though I am a big fan of the games, I don’t see them making a comeback anytime soon. Today we live in a world where everyone thinks that their entitled to something. If it hadn’t been for a few college players who thought that they needed payment, we would still be able to play these games. The NCAA payed off about 1,000 per athlete (Rovell). Instead people have been watching other sports on Saturdays, like European soccer (Rovell). This is because more kids are playing games like FIFA. So instead of wanting to be college football stars, they want to be soccer stars. Soccer popularity has increased a lot in my community in the past few years. When I was a kid there might have been enough people to make two teams, now they have a whole league full. Another reason is kids enjoy playing as their favorite team. Even though Madden is still available and you can play as your favorite players there, not all of your favorite players from college go pro. Some really great college players couldn’t make the cut at the professional level. Johnny Manziel is a great example of this. He was drafted in the first round by the Cleveland Browns. It looked like he was going to be the starter and maybe even the franchise quarterback, until he started getting in trouble. He was arrested after his rookie season on a domestic violence charge and became an alcoholic. He was later checked into rehab the next summer for alcohol abuse. He is no longer in the madden games today. Another great college player that is no longer in Madden is Tim Tebow. Like Manziel, Tebow was drafted in the first round, but it was soon apparent that Tebow wouldn’t make it as an NFL quarterback because of his style of play.
