My Vision as a Practitioner-Scholar

Capella University Abstract
Scholar practitioners are committed to the well-being of clients and colleagues, to learning new ways of being effective, and to conceptualizing their work in relation to broader organizational, community, political, and cultural contexts (McClintock, 2003). The Capella learning model consists of learning new information, processing information, coming up with new strategies and applying/monitoring new strategies or approaches to the discipline. (Capella, 2003) They both utilize knowledge to synthesize, evaluate, and add to their area of interest. I would like to help children with multiple disabilities in a school based environment. To do this, I will build upon and utilize my skills and knowledge of both ABA therapy and Speech Pathology. Ogletree stated (2001), ABA has had a long-lasting influence on the field of speech-language pathology principally because ABA treatments have been clear on the questions asked and answers provided. By collaborating the two, the child will be able to learn how to functionally communicate in an appropriate manner. I would combine the two by testing the student’s behaviors as a form of communication from there I would replace it with a more suitable form of communication. These goals are attainable and relevant to becoming a BCBA. While there is no exact date as to when I will take the test, I have set goals of finishing my degree in 1.5-2 years, obtaining my 1500 in 2 years, and taking the test in about 2-3 years. As long as I work hard and remind myself of when I want to achieve these goals, then I have no doubt in my mind that I will achieve all of my goal on time. The Capella practitioner-scholar model helped me to clearly identify specific goals that I want to achieve, as well as, what I need to do to be successful in achieving my goals. Conclusion
Achieving my vision and goals will take great discipline and a lot of hard work. It will also take a lot of time management, some activities that I am used to doing will inevitably have to be placed on the back burner for the time being. I am deeply committed to fulfilling my dreams and dedicated to helping children achieve their goals as well.
I am eager to expand on my experiences and work in a variety of settings, including participation in research. It is my greatest aspiration to become a competent, well-rounded, versatile behavior analyst. I know from experience that language, communication, and behavior coincide. I want to be able to help a student as whole so that no part is
