Capella University Abstract
Scholar practitioners are committed to the well-being of clients and colleagues, to learning new ways of being effective, and to conceptualizing their work in relation to broader organizational, community, political, and cultural contexts (McClintock, 2003). The Capella learning model consists of learning new information, processing information, coming up with new strategies and applying/monitoring new strategies or approaches to the discipline. (Capella, 2003) They both utilize knowledge to synthesize, evaluate, and add to their area of interest. I would like to help children with multiple disabilities in a school based environment. To do this, I will build upon and utilize my skills and knowledge of both ABA therapy and Speech Pathology. Ogletree stated (2001), ABA has had a long-lasting influence on the field of speech-language pathology principally because ABA treatments have been clear on the questions asked and answers provided. By collaborating the two, the child will be able to learn how to functionally communicate in an appropriate manner. I would combine the two by testing the student’s behaviors as a form of communication from there I would replace it with a more suitable form of communication. These goals are attainable and relevant to becoming a BCBA. While there is no exact date as to when I will take the test, I have set goals of finishing my degree in 1.5-2 years, obtaining my 1500 in 2 years, and taking the test in about 2-3 years. As long as I work hard and remind myself of when I want to achieve these goals, then I have no doubt in my mind that I will achieve all of my goal on time. The Capella practitioner-scholar model helped me to clearly identify specific goals that I want to achieve, as well as, what I need to do to be successful in achieving my goals. Conclusion
Achieving my vision and goals will take great discipline and a lot of hard work. It will also take a lot of time management, some activities that I am used to doing will inevitably have to be placed on the back burner for the time being. I am deeply committed to fulfilling my dreams and dedicated to helping children achieve their goals as well.
I am eager to expand on my experiences and work in a variety of settings, including participation in research. Once a week, Ms. Neiman has an occupational therapist visit our nonverbal student and our student with autism. Occupational therapist uses special equipment to help children with developmental disabilities, they help students develop and improve the skills needed for daily living. The occupational therapist uses techniques that work the children’s brain, for the nonverbal student since she is at a lower learning level she is teaching her to match colors and unscrew lids. For the student with autism, she is teaching him to tie knots and how to properly draw shapes. She removes the obstacles for the children by supplying the students with the necessary specific help needed in the areas in which the students are lacking or not doing well. One of the gestures Ms. Neiman wanted the nonverbal student to learn was, “I want more”. In trying to do so, she contacted the speech therapist for her input. The speech therapist found a device where she could record her voice saying “I want more” and the student could press the button when trying to relay that message. Ms. Neiman tried the device for about a month and she realized the student was not responding to the button. She removed trying to teach the student how

The purpose of Application of a Motor Learning Treatment for Speech Sound Disorders in Small Groups was to evaluate the effectiveness of motor-learning based therapy, also called Concurrent Treatment, within groups of up to four elementary public school students with disordered articulation, normal language, and normal hearing. The authors of this paper recognized that while many studies have been done to determine the efficacy of students in individualized therapy settings, few studies had been done to look at therapy within small groups. Therefore, the researchers tested twenty-eight 6-9 year old children within a small group using Concurrent Treatment. The children were able to acquire their targeted speech sounds within 40 30-minute sessions (20 hours over 20 weeks).
At Clarke I currently teach in a self contained classroom of four year old children that are deaf and hard of hearing who are learning to listen and speak. I assist under the direction of the classroom teacher in planning, preparing and executing lessons in a listening and spoken language approach. I have the opportunity to record, transcribe and analyze language samples on a daily basis. In addition, I facilitate the child's communication in the classroom and ensure carryover of activities between the classroom and individual speech therapy sessions. Every week I contribute and participate in meetings with the educational team to discuss each child's progress using Cottage Acquisition Scales of Speech, Language and Listening (CASSLLS).

Your Vision as a Psychology Practitioner-Scholar Introduction One of my visions as a psychology practitioner scholar is becoming a clinical counselor. After working with the 3rd graders, I became an assistant teacher at an early childhood education center in a low-income neighborhood with numerous students who needed extra support due to behavioral and emotional disorders. Students with learning disabilities in the regular classroom may have challenges that require special attention. If the teacher is able to identify the disabilities and the features associated with them then the teacher can tailor the lessons to meet the needs of the students. These may include differentiated instruction and facilitating an inclusive classroom which will see inclusive strategies employed that will cater to the needs of students with learning disabilities. These inclusive strategies can range from individualized learning programs to team and co-teaching. In some cases, the teacher can arrange for a special education teacher or arrange for a pull out program to assist students who have learning disabilities. Strategies that will also cater to learning disabilities may also include the use of technology. According to Ford 2013 ‘In some situations it may be best for students with LD to be taught in separate pull out classrooms with a teacher who can provide targeted skill instruction in areas where a student is struggling.’ ‘When provided appropriate support within this setting, many of these students can achieve academically and develop positive self-esteem and social skills. (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association 1991). They also recommend that schools should ‘require in-service programs for all school personnel to give them the knowledge and skills necessary to provide education for students with learning disabilities in the regular education classroom.’ Schools should include activities to help participants learn strategies to meet individual needs of students, foster attitudes conductive to educating students with learning disabilities in the regular education classroom, and promote
The first step I will use to start building the foundation of my destiny is motivation. Like Guadalupe Quintanilla, who was motivated by love, encouragement, and setting examples for her children. I am motivated by my children’s love, and I am able to prove to them it is never too late to makes goals with determined motivation. I am highly motivated to succeed as a registered nurse, and I understand the necessary steps that will lead me to achieve my goals. The path that I will take is a complicated one, and I have to stay motivated with encouragement from my children and family. I want to show my children how to stay focused and motivated when approaching a goal. The future of my children’s lives rest on my shoulders. There have been times where I am sure my children have seen me struggle, but when I look into their faces and see their expressions, it gives me an extra push of energy and motivation to get up and continue what I started.
My experience with goal making has always been a rough affair. The goals were not a source of motivation or inspiration for me. Instead the goals were a one-time action and were never to be found again once written down. It is not that I did not want to succeed in my goals or get the satisfaction of completing my goals, it is simply that my goals did not fit my specific needs and were not easy to follow. It is only now that I realize my goals were far from specific and measurable, realistic and challenging, and within a timeframe. Within this framework for goals my goals can become more inspirational to me and become a part of my life rather than a passing event in my life.
In the future, I hope to pursue my career dream of becoming a pediatrician. Pediatricians can be identified individuals who specialize in giving medical care to children and adolescents between infancy to adulthood at eighteen years of age. I became inspired to become a pediatrician due to my immense love of children. Perhaps I have an innate intuition for taking care of people being that I have always felt that I excel at taking care of others. The idea of taking care of others truly makes me feel that I serve a purpose, not only to better the life of myself but the life of others. Therefore, I believe that becoming a pediatrician will help me combine the best of both worlds into a career that I adore and cherish.
Creating and achieving goals are some important things that people want to do in their lives and learn to accomplish or achieve them. The goals can be small, big, long, short, simple, complicated, hard, objective, career, life, educational, professional and it can be for anything such as health, job, work, you, the people that are around you, friends, family, the world, history, culture and advocacy. In order to accomplish or achieve these goals, you need to have a lot of time, effort, proficiency, patience and perseverance. Goals are the ones to be proud of because we are accomplishing them every day you just do not realize it.
