In the twenty years I have been in school total, math courses have always found my weak spot. I remember the anxiety I felt as a child and teenager preparing for math tests. No matter how many hours I spent on homework and studying, I never felt prepared. Some people can grasp statistics naturally; however, I do not gravitate towards any mathematical data. Math is like a foreign language to me. When choosing to continue my education to obtain my Master’s Degree, I originally began looking for online colleges that did not require Statistics as a pre-requisition. The more I searched, the more compelled to Walden University I became. When starting this class in October, I made a goal to grasp as much knowledge as I could. I truly wanted to understand Statistics; I still do. Though I do not fully understand each concept, I have learned how Statistics greatly impacts daily life. Once I obtain a Master’s Degree in Nursing Informatics, I will use statistics as an intervention to save time, with the overall goal of making patient care quick and effective. As a nurse, I did not realize how I use statistics every shift I work. In nursing, we use Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) to increase better outcomes for patients. With EBP, studies are conducted and data is completed. Based on the data, nurses can change daily practices so that patient care is always performed as safely as possible.
