As humans, we have to make choices throughout our lives. Sometimes neither of the choices are good enough by societal or personal ethics for a given situation. These situations are called ethical dilemma and usually consists of complex moral and ethical reasoning. When I think about ethical dilemma, an event that happen to me in my Matriculation Exam (Higher Secondary Exit Exam in Myanmar) stood out to me. The exam result will determine my college career. I need to make the most points to score above the medical school admission cut-off points. The third day of the exam is the math exam. I have built my math skills required for this test for two years, but I couldn’t solve one of the math problems. I was stuck in the middle of the problem. I was stressed out and been sweating from exhaustion. I looked across and saw one of the students have already answered the question. I did not cheat because not every students who took the test cheated on the test. My actions were based on my motivation to do the right thing and not on the good consequences that may result from my actions (E. Morrison, 2016, p. 12). If I would have cheated on the test, I would have gotten into medical school. I would have brought happiness to my family and my friends. I also chose goodness over evil as described by Sir. Thomas Aquinas in his natural law theory. As a human, I have the give of rationality and I use my moral judgement to choose good over evil (E. Morrison, 2016, p.10). I did not use Mill’s Theory of utilitarianism in making my decision. I did not consider the good consequences that can occur from my action of cheating. I did not think about the happiness of my family, friends. I did not even consider about my happiness and how I could get into medical school and become a
