I am am excited to see the progress I have already made as a writer. While writing my Reflection paper I adjusted my focus not to just my words and thoughts: but to my paper as a whole. My newly found skills include being able to develop a thesis, paragraph unity and using stronger vocabulary choice. However; I still hold weaknesses as writer too.
Developing a solid thesis statement, develops a solid paper. A thesis statement makes the reader aware of the topics you will be discussing and your details to support them. Before developing my thesis, I found it easier for me to create a list of all my topics and reasons to support those topics with detail. From that list I was better able to create my thesis. A thesis allows you to create a nice flow to the paper by setting up the order of the chosen topics within the statement itself. For example; Music has influenced my life and America in many positive ways, for example; Music brings out individuality, can be useful in education, and creates appreciation for other cultures and diversity. Then I continued my paper discussing my pints in the order listed in my thesis. Thesis statements are also very important because the way the grab the reader’s attention.

Paragraph unity has always been a weakness of mine. My mind tends to trail and make a reader confused trying to bounce back and forth between my various thoughts. I am now able to control my thoughts in a uniform manner. This made my paper much easier to read and follow. Not only does it help me the writer to create a better paper, but also helps the reader to read it. Paragraph unity made Delete repeated word my paper look and seem more professional. With being able to control my thoughts, I was able to write a better
As the first semester of my sophomore year wraps up, I begin to realize that I have learned a lot in all of my classes. The class that I learned the most from has definitely been my English 111 course. This class have given me so many opportunities to improve my writing skills. With all of the success I’ve had in this class, I believe I will do just fine with writing later in my life.
The art of writing is a complex and difficult process. Proper writing requires careful planning, revision, and proofreading. Throughout the past semester, the quality of my writing has evolved significantly. At first, I struggled with the separation of different types of paragraphs, and I found writing them laborious. Constant practice, however, has eliminated many of my original difficulties, and helped to inspire confidence in my skills. As a collegiate writer, my strength lies in my clear understanding of the fundamentals of writing, while my primary weakness is proofreading my own work.
Writing is no easy task: transforming intricate ideas in your mind to coherent, limpid sentences is no simple feat. And even when you think you are finished with a piece of writing, you can always improve it. Which is why my analysis of The Wife Speaks by Elizabeth Stoddard, which I earned a 7 on, requires revisions on numerous aspects: my lengthy, garrulous thesis, and--most importantly--the analysis of the poem itself, which is cursory and superficial. Right off the bat, I noticed that my thesis, which comprises five-lines by itself, obscures my argument due to its incoherence.
Another revision technique that was suggested was “sentence outlining” which involves summarizing each paragraph of a writing into one overarching sentence in order to improve the cohesion of the piece (Harris 450). Introducing these techniques can allow readers to utilize revision in their own writing and form their own stance on its effectiveness. With revising the conclusion of a piece, Harris’ advise is to look ahead rather than to rephrase what has already been stated (Harris 454). Revision is expected to extend beyond the piece.
Leo Szilard structured his petition in a way that was an easy to follow and navigate argument. While a thesis statement is typically found at the beginning of a paper in
When writing a five paragraph essay, there are five steps one must fallow in order to attain perfection, these steps include understanding the question, brainstorming, writing a rough copy, revising, and creating a final draft. The first and most important step is understanding the topic. The topic of the essay is what the essay will be about and if this is misunderstood, the whole essay will be off course. The second step, brainstorming, will help organize thoughts and ideas so they flow amiably. There are many different ways to brainstorm, some of the most helpful are making a web of ideas, making a list of ideas, or creating a Venn diagram to compare and contrast the conviction. All these ideas will be related to the topic at hand. For example, if the essays topic is about how the earth is affected by global warming, then the brainstorming ideas might include the ozone lair being reduced or how global climate has raised. The third step when writing a five paragraph essay is creating the rough draft. The first draft must have all the features the final will, but does not have to be...
2. Your thesis statement appears in its own paragraph. Thesis statements are a part of the introduction and should be included in the introductory paragraph.
In this paper, I am to write about my strengths and weaknesses in writing. This is not an easy task for me because I have never considered myself a writer. Reading other peoples thoughts are activities that are more my speed. I simply have trouble putting my thoughts into writing. Since, I do not feel that I have many strengths, let's move on to my weaknesses.
After reviewing my written work from this this school year, I have determined my strengths and weaknesses in this course. By understanding the flaws in my writing, this allows me to better my skills and apply my thoughts. First, I do not write with enough attention to detail. I can improve my writing by being more specific with descriptions and adjectives. I tend to have a concise writing style, which has its pros and cons.
This semester I learned many new things in my English 1301 class. I took this class last year but I had to drop it because I didn’t have a professor explaining the work to me. And I really didn’t understand what I was doing. At first, I was scared to take this class. During my high school years I wasn’t that good of a writer. I thought this composition class was going to be hard since I sometimes thought it was hard in high school. My writing experience was good and sometimes bad. This semester in the composition class I had many writing strengths and weaknesses. These strengths and weaknesses is what helped me learn the errors I was making while writing essays this semester.
are going to say about your topic. Thesis statements often come at the end of the introductory paragraph. This
Papers that I have written in the past have been critiqued many times for losing its focus in the multitude of information that I try and fit into a paper. When I would write papers before teachers would always leave a comment that I would write like I talk, which would lead to the problem that I exercised in the previous sentence. While this was also a problem in the way I would tie the information in this was also a problem in how I would structure my paragraphs and intergrate my quotes. Many times before I would drag on the paper when I need to intergrate a quote or when I needed to breakup the essay with another paragraph, and vice versa when I would force a quotation integration and new paragraph. I learned new ways olf intergrating quotes such as the indirect quote, which I used barely before I came to this class. What I noticed in my papers this semester is that this part of my writing has improved a lot : I was able to intergrate my quotes in my paper organically and with ease. In the past it felt like I was doing some of these methods, because it seemed like the thing my teachers wanted rather than it helping my paper. Something else that was fixed with time that dealt with my paper organization was my word count. When instructors would give me a word limit many times I would find myself going over it; however, with time I was able to keep some points concise to downsize my
This class has helped me realize my strengths and weaknesses in literature. This has allowed me to grow and realize that I am a work in progress. I am confident that by the end of this class my big issues in writing will be improved. Each assignment in this class is helping grow and is making me into the writer I know I can be.
... essay looks so discontinuous. I realize that to make my article better, the transition between paragraphs are really important because it can give readers a sense of what I am talking about.
