Before we all start, I would love to share something from the essay written by Leah McLaughlin. “Soft addictions are an escape from uncomfortable feelings.” What do you guys think? You think she is right? Do you believe that people have soft addictions to really escape from the uncomfortable feelings? People have all kinds of different soft addictions. For example, coffee, food, energy drinks, and etc. I mean, I could name so much more. But there is just too many for me to list. So, does a soft addiction actually hurt us, or stopping us from living fulfilled life? Now, let just think about what we know about soft addictions, I mean we all know what soft addiction is and we do it all the time. But, do we ever think about “is this hurting us? Or is it harming us from living a fulfilling life?” Soft addiction is hard to escape from. Because we all do it and we don’t feel guilt or shamed about it. Soft addictions make us feel good, safe, and ignore things that we don’t want to really deal with. My soft addiction is my car. I look at my car every time I go out for a smoke. I check for scratches, dings, or chips. I spend probably a 1 hour a day on it. I could use that time on school, gym, or work. It is very important that someone who understands how to control soft addictions have more time with their families, better living conditions, and living healthier. We all know not all soft addictions are harmful to a person. But if you fix your soft addictions you will be happier and you will connect more with others. There are books out there to help and understand about soft addictions and solution to stay away from
