"Be your own kind of Beautiful: My pursuit for True Beauty." Most everyone has seen the Oscars, and heard that famous phrase "And the Oscar goes to....". I've waited with baited breath to see who would be chosen for the honor of best actress, best actor, or best film etc. Over the years I've noticed an increase in these types of award shows. I've also noticed a influx of Actors, Actresses, musicians, models donning the front covers of Magazines. All of them seem to look perfect. Perfect Body, face, and smiles to match the clothing line or movie they are endorsing. Beauty and Perfection seem to be ubiquitous. Needless to say, I was stunned and deeply moved by her performance. She was clearly the winner of this competition. And the crowds cheering confirmed what I already knew. She would be our next Miss America 1995. And when Regis Philbin announced her as the next Miss America 1995, I was elated. She was a truly beautiful person. I wanted to be just like her. I wanted to be on that stage for a chance at that crown. So I decided one year to enter the Miss Orem pageant. It a local pageant for the Miss America pageant system. I had my talent prepared, and I was ready to go get that crown, and then win Miss Utah, and then get to the Miss America Stage. My motivation was two-fold. I wanted to be considered beautiful, and I wanted the scholarship monies to continue to go to school. My parents were concerned about the cost to enter. I didn't have an evening gown. My teeth were not perfect. One of them told me that "You're not pretty enough." I was determined to enter anyway. But the pageant director told me that I was too old to enter. I was still 23 years old, and the cut off age is 24. So I was qualified. I feel that
