My Project On Artificial Nails

I have been attending Kendrick High School for 4 years. I have my own job and car. My GPA is a 3.2. My plans after high school is to attend Columbus Technical College. I plan to become a pharmacist after I attend college. I am doing my project on Artificial Nails. There are different names for artificial nails such as: acrylic nails, false nails, and etc... There are also different types of nails such as: Acrylic, gel, and silk. The different type of styles are: round, oval, square, rounded square, almond, stiletto, lipstick and squoval. The reason why I chose nails is because I have always liked to get my nails did. I never really thought of doing them myself until I was assigned to do a senior project. So I decided since I love to get my nails done so much I should start to learn how to do them and I might make some money if I do well! My Mentor’s name is LaTanya Pham. LaTanya has worked at Star Nails in Columbus on Macon Road for over 10 years. Doing nails has always been her passion. LaTanya’s specialty is to design nails. The main thing that I struggled with while doing this project was getting the acrylic to lay smoothly onto the nail. I would like to thank my mentor Miss Tanya for helping me learn a new skill. Until I took up learning how to do nails I was never quite good at anything. But then I picked artificial nails as my project and I knew Miss Tanya would be the perfect person to show me everything I’ve learned up until today. The process in which woodworking goes through is very time consuming. “There are five main steps in woodworking: (1) planning and design, (2) cutting, (3) drilling, (4) fastening, and (5) sanding and finishing.” (Jared, Pg. 1). Planning and design is the most crucial part of the process. During this step a woodworker must calculate precise measurements and create a layout of the final product. Cutting is done by using a variety of different types of tools to make very defined details or simple shapes aimed towards the expected outcome. Next in the process is drilling. Drilling allows a woodworker to connect each section of wood together using screws, metal plates, and hinges (Jared, Pg. 2). This can be done using either hand or power tools. After being drilled together, sections of wood are fastened to one another with screws, nails, or an adhesive. This is the second to last step in the process. Lastly, a woodworker sands the wood and then adds a finish. Sanding is done to remove tool marks and to make the wood surfaces smooth (Jared, Pg. 3). A finish is added to preserve the wood and make the natural wood grain stand out. “If you want a silky, smooth feel to your finish, you must sand between coats no matter what kind of poly you use” (Great Book Of Woodworking Tips, Pg. 71). This goes for both hard and soft wood products. It also adds onto the final product’s look by giving it a more professionally done look. In an interview with Mr. Palacios, he said, “the most challenging thing in woodworking is making a final product look professionally done.
