“Simon Says” is a game commonly played among children of all ages, but especially younger children in many different cultures. “Simon Says” requires there to be one leader who is called Simon. Simon states orders to the other players such as “jump up and down”, “pat your head”, “rub your stomach”, etc. The trick is that unless Simon says “Simon Says” before the action, the other players must not perform the action stated by Simon. This game may address the social development of children because they are required to pay attention to their peers and what they are saying. The leader chooses an animal and says an action the animal could possibly do. If the animal cannot do the action the leader specified, the other players stand still; however, if the animal can perform the action the leader specified, they are to perform that action. For example, the leader says “Birds… fly!” and since birds can fly, all of the players begin to flap their arms as if they are flying. “My Little Bird” may address the cognitive development of children because it requires them to think about various animals and their abilities such as what action a bird typically performs versus a goat. This game may also address physical development by promoting the movement of children throughout the game and the use of their gross motor skills.
