Webster's dictionary describes a hero as 'a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities'. But not all heroes are like Superman or The Flash. A hero can just be a person as normal as you or me. That's why I choose my best friends mom,Melissa Clouse as my Michigan Hero. I remember the first time I met her. I was going to sleepover at my friends house for the first time and I was really nervous. Once I gotten there and I had met Melissa,I was less nervous and really comfortable around her. After a few hours we started to play The Sims,Melissa was sitting on the couch opposite of us. We were taking turns and it was currently Justice,my friends turn,so while I waited she started talking to me. She was asking me how I was doing
Melissa Barthelemy was born in April of 1985. She went missing, and presumably died at age 24 in July of 2009. She grew up in Buffalo, lived with her dad in Texas for several years, and then moved back to Buffalo with her mom and younger sister in order to finish high school. She received her license in cosmetology and and worked at a Supercuts in Buffalo until she moved to the Bronx in 2007. Her mother stated that she wanted to save up enough money to open up her own salon and that she claimed she was working at a salon when she moved to the Bronx. Looking back at it now, her mother believes that Melissa’s job at the salon was just a cover-up for her actual ‘career’. While she put on the façade of an innocent girl to her parents and sister,
Mary MacKillop was born in Fitzroy, Melbourne on January the 15th 1842. She was the first child to Alexander MacKillop and Flora MacDonald. Mary was one child out of 8 and spent most of her childhood years looking after and acting like a second mother to her siblings. The MacKillop family were quite poor so at the young age of 14, Mary got herself a job as a governess and as teacher at a Portland school. All the money Mary earned went towards her families everyday living. While working as a governess, Mary met Father Julian Tension Woods. By the time Mary had reached the age of 15 she had decided that she wanted to be a nun. She also wanted to devote her life to the poor and less fortunate. So upon meeting Father Julian Tension Woods she told him her hopes and dreams, and together they decided to set up a school. In 1861, they worked together and opened Australia's first free Catholic school. At the time only the rich could afford schooling. But at the school Mary opened anyone was welcome. Mary was a great teacher and became very popular within the community. Although Mary was very pleased with her work she still felt a religious calling. So Mary and Father Woods started their own order, 'The Sisters of St. Joseph.' In 1867 Mary then moved to Adelaide where she opened another school. Before long there were 17 schools open across Australia. Mary's followers grew and by 1909 she had followers all over Australia. Mary later died on the 8th of August 1909.
Claire Lee Chennault was born to John and Jessie Lee Chennault on September 6, 1890 in Commerce, Texas. In his historic life, he earned 17 medals which includes the Distinguished Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and Distinguished Flying Cross with Oak Leaf Cluster. From becoming a school teacher to general, he was discharged from service twice due to disagreements with other higher ranking officers and commander of the Flying Tigers. The man even has an air base named after him due to his successful career; Chennault Air Base in Lake Charles.
A hero is defined as "someone admired for his bravery, great deeds or noble qualities". There are three categories to which all heroes can be classified into, one of which is the anti-hero genre.

For example, superman , superman is an all time american classic modern hero who is admired for his courage and for saving earth multiple times from super villains. Another example of a hero is Beowulf. Beowulf was created around 1000 AD and was known far and wide throughout the lands for his selflessness,bravery, and courage .
Jon Krakauer, fascinated by a young man in April 1992 who hitchhiked to Alaska and lived alone in the wild for four months before his decomposed body was discovered, writes the story of Christopher McCandless, in his national bestseller: Into the Wild. McCandless was always a unique and intelligent boy who saw the world differently. Into the Wild explores all aspects of McCandless’s life in order to better understand the reason why a smart, social boy, from an upper class family would put himself in extraordinary peril by living off the land in the Alaskan Bush. McCandless represents the true tragic hero that Aristotle defined. Krakauer depicts McCandless as a tragic hero by detailing his unique and perhaps flawed views on society, his final demise in the Alaskan Bush, and his recognition of the truth, to reveal that pure happiness requires sharing it with others.
Mary Mahoney was a very selfless woman. Ametia states that “Because of her dedication and untiring will to inspire future generations, Mary Eliza Mahoney has been an inspiration to thousands of men and women of color who are part of the nursing profession.” Because of her being the first African-American nurse, Ms. Mary Eliza Mahoney made a big impact on American lives and futures.

Between the years of 1960 to 1980, author Lisa McGirr highlights how the city of Orange County was the hotbed of the movement of the “New Right.” More specifically, McGirr argues that this conservative mobilization could be traced from three fronts, which attracted many middle class, white collar Orange Countians to the conservative cause. In what could have been Chris McCandless’s last contact with humanity he tells his new comrade, Wayne Westerberg, “If this adventure proves fatal and you don’t hear from me again I want you to know you are a great man. I now walk into the wild” (Krakauer 3). For 112 days Chris lived off the harsh Alaskan land. For anyone who is brave enough to travel on the stampede trail and cross the treacherous Teklanika River you will come across the Fairbanks City Transit System Bus 142. Once a backcountry shelter for hunters, trappers, ranger patrols, and for a short time Chris McCandless, Bus 142 now serves as a memorial for Chris McCandless. Travelers will make the trip to witness the basic resources Chris had at hand and the courage it took to make it as far as he did into his journey. Chris was not unaware of the dangers of the Alaskan wilderness. He was fully informed of the challenges he would face and was confident, maybe even hubristic, that he could overcome them. Non Supporters would argue this makes Chris a fool, reckless, brash, or even border lined unintelligent while in fact it is quite the opposite. Chris was a hero because he knew his differences and embraced them, his ambition and strive for perfection took his life, and he followed his dreams no matter the cost.
In my opinion, a hero is someone whose principal purpose, whether it be in one situation or over the span of their entire life, is to help others while simultaneously making the world a better place. When the word hero is brought up, the most prevailing image that comes to mind is superheroes like Batman and Superman. But I don’t think you have to have superpowers or even be well known in order to be a hero. There are people all over the world whose intention is to do selfless deeds and go out of their way for others without expectation of obtaining anything in return. These are the type of people I like to consider everyday heroes. They go through life just trying to be the best they can and trying to help as many people as they can. Whether
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary a hero is an individual who is admired for great bravery or fine qualities. To me a hero is so much more than a person who shows great bravery. When I think of a hero many fine qualities come to mind; intelligence, courage, altruism, compassion and great bravery.

Webster’s definition of a hero is, a person who is admired for great or brave acts ("Hero."). This is a basic definition because in actuality the definition of hero is more complex. A hero is someone who is selfless. In spite of the dangers or fears of what may happen, a hero will still do the right thing. A hero is someone who sees something that needs to be done and does it no matter the cost to themselves.
The idea of a hero can be perceived in several different ways, mainly people are defined as heroes due to personal life experiences or accomplishments. Though most perceive heroism as that, I however feel that the true heroes are just everyday people trying to do whats right. I believe a hero is someone who is determined to do whats right no matter the cost, a hero is someone who is selfless in bad situations and a role model. A hero does not always have to fall under these categories but it can be anyone that makes a significant impact on someones life, and can be looked up to as a role model. The two people in my life that I consider as heroes are Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and my mother Anne Mozingo.
