My Grandpa's Specific Smell

A real life event, that brought upon a specific smell, that triggers my memories and emotions would be my Grandpa’s passing. My Grandpa passed away about 2 years ago, and he used to wear a very musty scented cologne everyday. It would saturate through everything, and was overbearing at times. Since my memory is connected to that specific smell being tied to my Grandpa, I always get hit like a freight train. The smell triggers my fondest memories of him, and brings back the sadness I felt after he passed away those 2 years ago. Furthermore, it sometimes even begins to make me want to go visit my Grandma, since I know that she misses him as well. Each of them comes with about three hundred and fifty different receptor types as well. Our smell receptors usually die after about four to eight weeks, and then they become completely replaced. People can also have something called anosmia, which is a defective sense of smell. This can be total, or partial, and there are many ways to get this defective sense of smell. It can be brought on by a head injury, an infection, or a blockage of the nose. Something fascinating though, is that some breast fed infants can in fact identify their mothers just by the scent of their breast milk.
