Catching chickens, card games, playing with cousins, and eating good food comes to mind when I think of my favorite place to be at. My grandpa’s house, which everyone in my family calls “Kahaluu” (simply because its located in the town of Kahaluu) was and still is a well-known place to me and everyone in my family. The saying, “There’s no place like home” definitely has a lot of truth and emotion behind it. Even though Kahaluu isn’t my home, I considered it to be. There was never a dull moment growing up at the Kahaluu house. With my big family constantly having parties at Kahaluu, it gave my cousins and I the chance to have a lot of fun. When I say I have a big family, I really mean I have a big family. My mom has five siblings and with them there are twenty two grandchildren. It was always a good time with that large amount of people in one house every Sunday. It was crazy but I loved it! Having so many cousins in my generation caused all of us to have epic playtime at Kahaluu. Since my grandpa lives in the country, it gave all of us cousins the opportunity to do all sorts of things.

Growing up in such a family filled environment has shaped me to be the kind of person I am today. Family time is so important and I can’t wait for my future family of my own to get to experience what I have, while growing up at kahaluu. To share my favorite place with them will mean a lot to me. The old summer cabins, the bedroom that was always comfortable, the library that always had a good book ready. The places that inspire a sense of nostalgic happiness, a place where nothing can go wrong.

My home is my haven and the place that I feel the safest and most comfortable at. It is where many good memories and feelings arise and I am able to be myself with no false pretenses. It is my “Home Sweet Home” yet the stories “Young Goodman Brown,” by Nathaniel Hawthorne, and “Soldier’s Home,” by Ernest Hemingway show a different attitude about home going and the effects it has on the main characters.
Home is experienced in a multitude of ways using our senses. Impressions of our past and present homes materialize from a familiar smell, sight, feeling, taste or sound. We all live in a multi-sensory environment, where we can use one or more of our senses on a daily basis to absorb our surroundings. However, it is easily arguable that although each sense can conjure up a memory, or imprint a grasp of where we live or lived, certain senses are stronger with the recollection or the feelings we have of our home. If we live in the same home as other people, some of us will associate a certain smell to the home, while others will not; or a sound, etc., that I would not associate with that home.
Lastly, after I officially got adopted. I was use to this family and thought of them as my parents. I obviously missed my real mom and sometimes still do, my new parents were awesome and we went on a lot of vacations. We went to Disney world, Sea world, Washington dc and more. I enjoyed most of the trips and would enjoy Dc more now than then. When we started to get use to this home we ended up moving to Minnesota from Missouri. This was a very big weather change, which affected me a lot at first, but I adapted fast. I have now lived in Minnesota for the majority of my life and really enjoy it.
Home is where you go and everyone, everyone has to love you, Home is where your Family is. Loung Ung grew up much of her life with little family in comparison to the large group she left behind half way across the globe in Cambodia in exchange for promise in America. We read about this in the novel Lucky Child an autobiography by Loung Ung. All the big moments of Loung’s life, all the people, and memories by the end of the day that she remembers most are the ones Loung shares with family the same is true for her sister and at the moments when she felt hate she was alone without her sister and vis versa.
Because of some of the circumstances that make me who I am, it is hard to say I have any one definitive home. Instead, I have had two true homes, ever since I was a young child. What makes this even more of a conundrum is that my homes have always had little in common, even though they are only a few hundred miles apart. Between the big city of Houston, Texas, and the small town of Burns Flat, Oklahoma, I have grown up in two very different towns that relate to one another only in the sense that they have both raised me.
My dream place would be a house on a Galapagos Island. My land will be located on the Isabella Island. It will be nice and relaxing because it has a constant weather all that time, perfect environment. Also I will have a nice 2 floor cabin. The cabins will look like the ones that you see in forest. My whole family will live there after I am 75. But before that I will spend my time gathering all the money to buy a piece of land, a plane, a boat, and some vegetable seed (lot of them). I want my dream place to be nice and relaxing where you can enjoy the environment and very peaceful weather.
For many years I would pass by the house and long to stop and look at it. One day I realized that the house was just that, a house. While it served as a physical reminder of my childhood, the actual memories and experiences I had growing up there were what mattered, and they would stay with me forever.

Some of my best family experiences were on family trips, but sometimes it was not in fact the activities at the place we were going but the journey there that held the learning experiences. Most of the family trips that we take are over eight hours long. There are many things that come from being in a cramped car for that long. One of which is you get bored unless you talk to other people, so that’s what you do. Sometimes you can find out a lot about a person by talking to them for that long, even people that you thought you knew completely. On one of my family trips my brother told about a time that his friend almost suffocated on a snow caving trip. Everyone has a special place that people will never forget. Sometimes it is because there were places that people experienced great joy or comfort. A special place represents peoples’ special memories either good or bad. Memory will following people whole life, and store people’s heart deeper. Good memory will coming all time. My special place and my memory is my grandparent’s house; my grandparent’s house practically is my second home.
