My Favorite Movie: The Wizard Of Oz

The Wizard of Oz is my favorite movie because of the interesting adventure that Dorothy goes on and all of the challenges that she faced. One interesting fact that I learned while trying write this essay I learned that they had to put Jell-O on the horses in the Emerald City scene, but it is really choppy because the horses tried to lick the Jell-O off of their hair. “A place where there isn 't any trouble. Do you suppose there is such a place, Toto? There must be. It 's not a place you can get to by a boat or a train. It 's far, far away. Behind the moon, beyond the rain...” (Garland) You don’t really think about it when you are watching the movie, but this movie goes right along with Aristotle’s Poetics in film. In this movie it starts out as day and there is a tornado that takes Dorothy to a different place and then at the end of the movie she is back at her house that afternoon. This follows Aristotle because it is roughly one day even though when she is going through Oz it feels like more than one day. For place it consists of two places, but one has more majority than the other. “The unity of time limits the supposed action to the duration, roughly, of a single day; unity of place limits it to one general locality; and the unity of action limits it to a single set of incidents which are related as cause and effect.” (Bellinger) When she is Kansas that is the minor part of the movie you only see her in Kansas on her farm a couple of times. Dorothy gets to Oz and she stays in Oz for almost the majority of the movie. This also goes against Aristotle because she does not stay in one location she travels around a long ways while she is in
