From caving to spearfishing, school, and personal fitness alike, I approach all of my hobbies and interests with passion and an internal drive for perfection. Dentistry is no exception, as my mother’s career as a doctor, and a kind family orthodontist have equipped me with a strong dive to explore the exciting field of dentistry. Rooted in medicine and surgery, and requiring a skill set which I enjoy, yet still able to remain somewhat removed from the rigors of persistently “on call” physician, I am confident dentistry lies in my future. John Kharouf was quite possibly the best learning experience of my life. It definitely was no school classroom, but Dr. Kharouf was generous with his knowledge, sharing the ins and outs of his trade with me whenever he could. Within his work, I clearly found my desire for surgery addressed, yet not in such an overbearing fashion as to eliminate the many aspects of the orthodontic field, such as patient interaction and manual dexterity, that I had come to love. Additionally, as I watched him work, I became keenly aware that, while it was his dental degree that had initially provided him the wide berth in procedural practices, it was also the very same degree that was now allowing him to specialize in a field uniquely his own. This I found particular comfort in, because while I enjoy diversity, it is the mastering of those few things in my life I hold closest to me, that
