Musical theatre is a living art form and are usually performed in theatres to entertain the viewers. It is usually combined with music, songs, spoken dialogue and dance.
• Music
• Musical theatre have various roles in theatres. Some artist used catchy songs depending on what genre they’re performing but usually do popular style. In various times solo songs, duets, choruses and ensembles are presented as well at which most of the time accompanied by orchestra or band.
Two formats of songs are used in the theatre, this includes the action song which the role is to move the plot forward or the character song which is also used to express each characters feelings within the performance. Most of the time ballads, comedy songs, production numbers and rhythm songs are used by the artist.
• Dance Numbers
• Dance routines are essential in musical theatre. The same function with music, dance numbers are also necessary. Movements are choreographed precisely as it is sometimes presented the same time as the character sings. It adds a

On 1974 he composed the music and lyrics of the song “Le Premier Pas” which was produced by Franck Pourcel. Because of his composition, the song then became the number one hit in France that year and sold almost over a million copies. On 1978 Schonberg and Alan Boublil collaborated and made an idea for a stage musical version of Victors Hugo’s Les Miserables which was then originally staged at the Palais de Sport in Paris on 1980. The musical was then opened in London and on Broadway which was nominated for twelve Tony Awards in 1987 and won eight and was held as the ‘Best Musical’ and ‘Best Original Score’. People have dreams of what they want to do or accomplish in life, but usually musical theatre is just pushed into the non-realistic void. It isn’t a dream for me. In the past four years, musical theatre has been clarified as my reality. Musical theatre has been the only thing I have seen myself wanting to do. My first love was The Phantom of the Opera, seeing how I watched it almost every day and it was one of the first shows I saw. Of course, I started doing all of those cute shows in middle school and making a huge deal about it to my family and friends, but I have never felt so passionate about something. In the introduction, Mordden explains that “all its [musical theatre’s] artistry dwells in the historian’s key buzz term ‘integrated’: the union of story and score” (Mordden x). It is important for audience members to understand that musical numbers aren’t put into shows just for pure entertainment. Rather, the numbers are there to not only further the plot, but to also tell more about the characters than can be said in words. As many shows say: sometimes you just have to sing about it. Mordden also points out that “the historian recognizes other aspects of integration—of dance as a thematic and psychological instrument…” (Mordden x). Just as musical numbers reveal more about the character, so can dance. If the character is shy and reserved, their movements and dances will reflect it with smaller movements and less flashy numbers. Although normally deemed as a musical event or sports game, essentially, a performance is an event that can captivate an audience which consists of an action, interaction or relationship. The performances can be planned and practiced or be spontaneously done at one’s aggression. Performances normally involve multiple participants as well as spectators and change the identity of the performer. Redeye’s 24 Hour production of Shrek: The Musical can be properly called a performance because the ensemble, both actors, directors, managers, and stage crew, diligently worked for twenty-four hours timelessly rehearing, building sets, dancing, and collaborated to produce a finished product that would tell a story to the audience and virtually transports them into the world of Duloc and into the swamps where Shrek resides.
It is curious to see the great star of the musical Wicked on Broadway, Indina Menzel, giving her voice to a character in Disney’s Movie, Frozen. This movie, that is an example of success, has won many awards, among them the Oscar for the best animation movie and music. However, does a musical produced in a theater such as Les Miserables or Chicago have the same success and prestige as the movie version? The advance of technology in the field of cinema that has been possible to adapt and improve the stories of books, real facts, and of course, musical theater presentations, makes everyone think the answer is no. Hence, even though the musicals produced in theater and for movies are very similar in the presentations, they have certain differences, such as audience and production that make one more successful than the other.
The Great Depression of the 1930s put many Americans out of work and left people searching for hope. After his election, Roosevelt's New Deal programs began to help better the lives of many jobless people. Unfortunately, many of these programs never reached their ultimate goals, and some failed without anything having been accomplished. The Federal Theatre Project (FTP) was one of many programs that could not fulfill what it had intended. The FTP was short-lived and plagued by severe censorship, all while being a major target of the House Committee to Investigate Un American Activities (HUAC).
Asian American theatre goes under-appreciated in the United States. Despite this, Asian American theatre has a rich history and includes many great plays written by very gifted playwrights. Their plays express their culture, but still retain western themes to the plays and with the art of theatre, they bring attention to Asian American society. Asian American Theater Theatre is an ancient art that goes back thousands of years and spreads across many different cultures. Theatre has expanded and evolved within every culture throughout time and has created a variety of different unique and exciting stages of theatre.

Theatre offers viewers the experience of taking a step back and looking in on themselves. In this way, theatre is a mirror for the world and the way it functions.
My experience watching a live theatre performance on stage was a fascinating one, most especially since it was my first time. I attended a staged performance of “The History Boys” in a small theatre called “The Little Theatre of Alexandria” at 8:00 pm on Wednesday June 8, 2016 in Alexandria, Virginia. The overall production of the play was a resounding experience for me particularly the performance of the actors and the design of the scene made the play seem real.
