There are some people in this world who always inexplicably know what they’re doing; amazing visionaries such as Andrew Lloyd Webber, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Beyonce. I, unfortunately, have never been one of those people. My path to this moment only became clear quite recently, but I know in my heart that music is something that I have to pursue in order to fully get everything I can from life. For what seems like my entire life, I’ve been drawn to music. My introduction to the music world was in 2nd grade, when my mother signed me up for piano lessons. I found it irritatingly difficult for my small hands to span the ivory keys, but each time I managed to play the correct note, my soul soared. And that was that, I signed away my soul to be able to keep trying to perfect every note and every song. When I thought my addiction couldn’t possibly find new material, my elementary school started an after school choir to perform at our weekly Mass. It was made up of a mishmash of fourth and fifth graders and although we were only given simple hymns we all had been singing since preschool, the newfound complexities of the two-part harmony and looked at each other …show more content…

Being a part of that group gave me the opportunity to challenge myself with more difficult music, and the greater the vocal obstacle, the more I thrived. My choir teacher, Ms. Tippett, took notice of my passion for music and urged me to pursue it further. She pushed me to audition for choral festivals, urged me to try out for the school musical, gave me new responsibilities within the choir, and always knew I could accomplish whatever task she handed me. She nurtured my unconditional love of all things with a melody and made me see that this path is attainable, that I can follow music for the rest of my life.
