Some say that music is a gift, a universal language that can appeal to everyone in the world today, but about 4 years ago, I met a person who brought me to the realization that the people who teach music can be coined the term language teachers. As I sat at my laptop at 12:34 in the afternoon hearing that annoying Face Time ring, I thought about how many questions I could ask my sister before she had to go back to class. My sister, Chan, appeared with one of the biggest and brightest smiles in the world. She was wearing her favorite superhero shirt: a gray heathered vintage Batman and Robin shirt that looks like she got it from the 1950’s. She sat down eager to talk sipping on her coffee, which burned her tongue as soon as she got on the screen. About five minutes into the conversation, her job really started to show its true colors. The kids were so hyper in the background you could swear that she was outside during recess. That’s because it was playtime for the kids, and also the best time for me to get a good conversation on a weekday. Besides from teaching, she also attends school to get her PhD in music. This fact makes me realize just how important people like her are in the world today. Individuals who do the most they absolutely can to teach but also attempting to better their education. In the background I saw many colorful and music related, as well as with an impromptu tour of the classroom. To get the best interview I possibly could, she put on a movie for the kids during their playtime. Class of 3000 was the movie of choice, which was so very interesting because that was an amazing show in my opinion on the life of music. As I heard the theme song by Andre’ 3000, I was in remembrance of so many memories of me just kno...

As the interview went on, I noticed that the class started to get louder in the background. This was the indication that the interview was over and it was time for the kids to start their next recorder lesson. I thanked my sister for her time and let her go so she can teach the class. From this interview, I learned that even one of the most unappreciated subjects in school today can have the most amazing and dedicated teachers in the world. I am very proud how important my sister is to these kids today. She is teaching the universal language. She is showing them the best aspects of life is having fun and love what you do. I honestly believe that the children are in the hands of someone who cares about them and will help them be better in life.
