The Zodiac In the 1960’s and 1970’s there were many unsolved murder cases. A handful of deaths were attributed to a single killer. He only killed in the San Francisco Bay area of California. The menace wreaked havoc was no other than the self-proclaimed Zodiac Killer. Due to the evidence found against him in his house, previous criminal records and accusations, and his fascination with Zodiac, the obvious guilty party is Arthur Leigh Allen. Even before the Zodiac ordeal, Arthur had run-ins with police. For starters, Allen really loved children. In 1964 Allen was sent to federal prison on two counts of child molestation (Arthur Leigh Allen file, 2017). For example, when Allen was in prison for molesting children, he would write letters to them asking for updates regarding the case. He stated in one letter “I wish to know more about Zodiac, since everyone seems to think I’m him (Arthur Leigh Allen file, 2017).” He obviously was hiding something. Another attention grabber is, a story Allen “made up” to his friends of a murderer named Zodiac. “Zodiac wore a black hood” and he “only used a knife and a pistol to kill (Arthur Leigh Allen file, 2017).” These stories that were made up were told right before the wave of terror struck. Notably, Allen had a zodiac watch. He received it as a gift approximately one year before the murder streak began (police file.org, 2001). The watch was most likely his inspiration for the zodiac symbol. First on the list, was the assortment of weapons. When officials raided the house, they found hunting knives and guns of the same caliber as those used in some of the murders (FBI.org, 2017). Not a single weapon was registered in his name. Furthermore, bombs were discovered inside of his house. Two pipe bombs were found hidden underneath Allen’s bed (police file.org). In a letter to police, Zodiac describes a failed attempt at a bus bombing; both people had the resources to craft a bomb. One more point is, police recovered an old, empty tape labelled “Z”. “The tape was empty, but it was on the computer desk hinting that Arthur planned on recording a message onto it,” stated chief of police, Eddie Brax (zodiac finder, 2006).
