The disaster that unfolded on Mount Everest during 1996 was an unfortunate result of multiple factors that occurred. Determining the single root cause of the tragedy may never be known as various possibilities could have happened. The most identifiable factors were the poor management and leadership skills of Rob Hall and Scott Fisher and the lack of preparation and equipment accessible to the group. Hall and Fisher displayed overconfidence in their skills and knowledge of climbing the summit. Despite warnings and signs of hazardous weather conditions, the leaders continued to push the group towards the summit.
