Modern heroes today are looked at as saviors of the world who are willing to put their life on the line to save lives. But not knowing where the hero comes from is a problem because we as humans like to know everything about our saviors. In The Inferno and Beowulf its acknowledge that two heroes stand out in each book which is Dante the Pilgrim and Beowulf. Beowulf is a better modern hero because he was a natural born leader who only wants best for his people. Modern hero is courageous, shows wisdom, and shows selflessness. Beowulf and Dante the Pilgrim were both heroes in their stories because of how much adversity they had to go through in order to be deemed a hero. Even though Dante the Pilgrim was nervous to go through the gates of hell he decided not to be a coward an begin his well needed journey. Beowulf was born to lead and defeat anything that tried to cause harm to his people, he seen life as his people should never have to worry. Beowulf is like Achilles, the Greek warrior, who uses his mind and his abilities to defeat his enemy. “Time and again, foul things attacked me, lurking and stalking, but I lashed out, gave as good as I got with my sword.” (Beowuld.559-61). Beowulf loses a race that he could have easily won in order to protect every one from the sea monsters that were underneath them so they could have infinite peace. His only lost in anything was because he was saving lives instead on focusing on the race. Beowulf was courageous because he could have just scampered away an focused on the race, but he wanted to kill the monsters who would face every sailor who went through that particular area giving them a death wish. Courage is a trait that is born within the person when they are born, you can learn it but it would take an immense amount of time to get over fears. Taking a step of faith can help you figure out other things you need in life to help you grow as a person, which is exactly what Beowulf and Dante the Pilgrim
