Stereotypes are all around us. Wherever one goes there will be stereotypes for people, a specific group, or even animals. For example, pit bulls are known to be very vicious dogs even though there are many pit bulls that are nice and friendly. These stereotype can really cloud people’s judgement of others just solely based on appearance. This prejudgement of a person can really hurt them various ways in the “real world” such as applying for a job. A man that wants to be a nurse can hurt his “manliness” because nurses are thought to be a job for women only.

Now some may say that some stereotypes are true and are an actual representation to who someone is. Many believe that all dads are poor caregivers, dumb, and goofy. In many sitcoms dads are portrayed as having these qualities. In the sitcom, Modern Family, Phil Dunphy is the kid’s dad who acts kooky and lesser to the Mom, Claire. However, this isn’t the only show that portrays the fathers of the families as a lesser. In shows like South Park or Family Guy all dads do are drinking beer and making a fool of themselves. If so many shows think of dads like this, wouldn’t have to be somewhat true? Shows try to depict what really goes on in an American household so that viewers can relate and like the show. So if shows are trying to depict this would it not be true in this case.
