It is an indication of the importance of sleep for the proper function of the body and its long-term survival. However, Weinhouse & Schwab (2006) notes that a broad spectrum of research in different settings and periods has shown that patients in intensive care units (ICU) suffer sleep disruption and deprivation affecting their ability to progress to a faster and complete recovery.
