What is a profession and how can the United States Military consider themselves a profession of Arms? A professional is someone who pursues years of education as well as practices their craft to a high standard. The United States of America has been at a consistent state of war in various combat zones since 2001. As such, the United States Military has been asked to carry a heavy burden in the name of National Security and interests. The citizens of the United States place their respect and trust in the military to act in their best interests both at home and abroad. Soldiers are initiated into the military through basic training where they learn basic Soldier skills such as how to fire and maintain their assigned weapon as well as other functions required in war. The education continues throughout their career to include education concerning their chosen profession within the military such as the Infantry, Artillery, Human Resources or Logistics operations. The job function a Soldier performs daily comes second to the reality of being a Soldier first. “To maintain the effectiveness of the profession, the Army tests and certifies its members to ensure each meets the high standards of the profession (both competence/ expertise and morality/character) required to ethically apply land combat power before being granted 5 status as a full member of the profession; and recertifies each professional at each successive level of promotion/advancement. They have access to sensitive items such as Soldier’s Social Security Numbers, birth certificates and other sensitive information documents. Human Resources Soldiers are required to qualify for and maintain a secret security clearance due to the handling of this information on a daily basis. In addition to deal with Soldier’s issues as they arise, Human Resources Specialists are available to family members. Some of the functions they provide are creating identification cards and answering questions in the event the family members spouse is deployed. The Human Resources section must maintain a professional atmosphere due to the fact a costly mistake with a Soldier’s paperwork could result in the Service Member not receiving the correct pay which in turn affects the Soldiers family. If a Soldier cannot focus on the war fighting mission at hand due to his finances not being in order it would cause an undue hardship for the command as combat arms units require precise movements and
