The middle class was disliked by the nobles as well as the peasants. The nobles believed that it was a disgrace to them to have such a class. The nobles thought that the middle class would eventually gain more power than them. Also, they were scared that the middle class would teach others on how to increase their power so they could overthrow the nobles.
The Middle class came out because of the industrial revolution. Trade increased and the growth of structures also increased which resulted in a new class. This brought a lot of money to the people which really helped them financially. They now had more than enough money to help them grow. They also had money for education, entertainment and food.

Some people like Emmanuel Sieyès, middle-class writer who was taken by the Enlightenment ideas, believed that all of French Society lay on the backs of the third estate. As stated in the textbook, the wealthiest people were seaport merchants that made their business on imports, exports, banks and insurance companies, and urban real estate. An example would be the Boston Brahmins who were a cluster of old Protestant families in Boston that constituted the city’s social elite by the early 19thcentury. The upper class enjoyed the prosperity industrialization granted them as they achieved luxury and extravagance. Below the social elite was a growing middle class that included lawyers, salesmen, clerks, retail merchants, and accountants. Prior to the industrial revolution people rarely experienced change. It was an extremely different place than it is now. During the industrial revolution there was a radical change in the socioeconomic and cultural conditions. People in majority were farmers since they didn’t have any technology everybody had to grow their own food. They were interdependent in maintaining all their necessities, mainly in their local communities because of the difficulty in distant transportation because they had no motorized vehicles. In villages there were private and public lands and in most there was no separating fence. In the public lands or village commons villagers could gather wood or have their livestock graze in the pastures and sum of the less wealthy farmers would even produce crops from it. The rich landowners lived on enormous estates and giant houses, cottages, and massive barns and huge fields. They also had servants who did whatever they wanted. However the people who rented land from them had quite a controversial life style. They often had to live with the farm animals they raised and a considerable amount lived in tinny, smoky, ill lighten, cottages.

Written by Geoffrey Chaucer at the end of the fourteenth century, The Canterbury Tales and more specifically it’s prologue, shed a great deal of light on the rising middle class in (fourteenth century) England. Despite the fact that some readers may not know a lot about the time period today, Chaucer’s writing in the prologue elaborates on topics such as occupations, wealth, education, and political power. Scholar Barbara Nolan writes of the prologue, “it is more complex than most…It raises expectations in just the areas the handbooks propose, promising to take up important matters of natural and social order, moral character, and religion and outlining the organization the work will follow” (Nolan 154). In other words, while noting the distinct complexity of the writing, Nolan points out that Chaucer’s prologue gives the reader a lot to digest when it comes to both background information and overall form of the following writing. Focusing on the background information supplied in the prologue, readers quickly become educated about middle class England in the fourteenth century despite having been born hundreds of years later.

This coal and iron was conducive to the rise of factories that rose up all over the world. Many people immigrated to different countries, particularly to the western countries, in hopes of finding better jobs to support their families who stayed behind.
