After graduation, Danielle was accepted to several institutions, but decided to further her higher education at Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia in 2010 to study Criminal Justice with a minor in Mass Communication. After a semester at Virginia Union University, Danielle made the President’s List but decided that she wanted to continue her education at Clark Atlanta University in Criminal Justice changing her minor in Sociology. Chuck D and Johnson in their article state that while Obama is in office they with the rest of the African American population hope to see a smaller wealth gap between white people and African Americans as well as a lower percentage of homelessness (45). This couple not only strongly believes in Obama, but also that he can bring reform to the country. Chideya in her article talks about Obama facing many problems that need fixing in the United States, and that he should focus mostly on education (136). This is another example of looking ahead into Obama's presidency and urging him to focus primarily on education. Only seven years after the passage of the Voting Rights Act, Chisholm entered the 1972 presidential race as a candidate for the Democratic Party. This timing made her the first woman to run for the Democratic nomination, as well as the first African American to run for the presidency. Chisholm sought to break down the American presidency – an office traditionally held by white, privileged men. As Chisholm herself described, she “‘ran because somebody had to do it first’” (Winslow 107). This boldness paved the way for many, including Secretary of State Hillary Clinton – the Democratic nominee in the 2016 presidential election.

Oprah Winfrey was born on January 29, 1954, in Kosciusko, Mississippi. Oprah’s childhood was extremely traumatic. When she was younger, several male relatives and friends of her mother, Vernita, sexually abused her. When Oprah became older, she moved to Nashville to live with her father, Vernon. In 1971, Oprah became a freshman at Tennessee State University. Oprah moved to Baltimore, Maryland, in 1976 and hosted the talk show People Are Talking. The show was a hit, and soon people recognized Oprah’s talent. She was recruited by a Chicago TV station to host her own morning show. Later, Oprah hosted another talk show named the Oprah Winfrey Show, which was perhaps her greatest show, as it aired for 25 seasons from 1986-2011 and became very popular.
