Many people enjoy many different activities and sports. People enjoy playing many common sports such as; baseball, softball, basketball, or football. Others enjoy out of the ordinary sports such as track or lacrosse. One of the most popular sports is swimming. Swimming is one of the most hardworking sports. Swimming has an interesting history, it has evolved over the course of history and has impacted the United States, and Michael Phelps is an influential swimmer. Swimming has evolved over the course of our history in many ways. Swimming used to only be a leisure activity. It was usually not for competing. Swimming first evolved when people found ten thousand year old rock paintings with people swimming on them on a cave of a wall in Egypt. Michael was born June 30,1985. He is the youngest of three. He was born and raised in Maryland. He is the son of Debbie and Michael Fred Phelps. He was swimming since the age of 7 he did this because he had an outlet of energy from his sister. By the time of age 10 he was already starting to hold records. He competed in his first Olympics at the age of 15. Every time he swims he breaks new records of his. He is an American swimmer that has 22 medals. He holds the all-time records for the most Olympic medals in swimming. He is the world record holder for 100-meter butterfly, 200-meter butterfly and 400-meter individual medley. Over the period of time he has won 77 medals in major international long-course competition. He has won 61 gold, 13 silver, and 3 bronze medals. He started the Michael Phelps foundation, which focuses on promoting people to swim and encourages a healthier lifestyle.
