On February 17, 1963, a businessperson, actor, Olympic athlete, and said to be one of the best professional basketball players was born. Michael Jordan was born in Brooklyn, New York but grew up in Wilmington, North Carolina. He went to the University of North Carolina in 1981 and became an important part of the basketball team there. He scored the final basket needed to win the NCAA Division I championships in 1982 and was named the NCAA College Player of the Year in 1983 and 1984. Michael Jordan was also a part of the U.S. Olympic basketball team, during the summer of 1984. The team won the gold medal for those games that year and he also helped the American team get the gold medal at the 1992 Olympic Games.
Michael Jordan left college after his junior year to join the NBA, was drafted by the Chicago Bulls, and helped the make the playoffs. Because of those events, he received the NBA Rookie of the Year Award. Jordan also received five regular-season MVPs and …show more content…

That same year he divorced his wife, Juanita Vanoy, of 17 years. Sadly, they had three children who also had to go through this divorce: Jeffrey, Marcus, and Jasmine. Jordan was given one of basketball’s greatest honors: being inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, in April 2009. In 2010, Jordan became the majority owner of the Charlotte Bobcats and serves as the chairman of the team. Beside his work with the Charlotte Bobcats, he is also involved with a few business ventures, including several restaurants. Additionally, Jordan did a lot of charity. He hosts the annual golf event otherwise known as the Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational. In 2016, Jordan was given the Presidential Medal of Freedom honor by Mr. Obama.
