Michael Jordan was inspired by his older brother Larry Jordan. Larry Jordan provoked Michael by defeating him in a basketball game. Michael took it personally in his view and so he enhanced his game. Being beaten by his older sibling brother was the only motivation Jordan needed to work on his basketball game and becoming the best player he could be. Michael Jeffery Jordan was born on February 17, 1963 in Brooklyn, New York. Before he was one, his parents James and Deloris Jordan, moved the family to Wilmington, North Carolina. His father James, built a basketball court in the backyard of the family’s new house. Growing up Michael adored baseball, but also played football and basketball.
During his sophomore year at Laney, Jordan at the height of 5’9” tried out for the basketball team. Jordan wasn’t chosen for the spot and was embarrassed. Michael Jordan’s play in high school drew the attention of the University of North Carolina assistants Roy Williams and Bill Guthridge. Roy made sure that Jordan attended Smith’s basketball camp in the summer of 1980. Dean was impressed with Jordan’s play and offered him a scholarship.
