Michael Jackson, The King of Pop, The Gloved One; these are just a few of the names used to describe the fascinating person who contributed so much to the music industry. Throughout his life he won numerous awards, and released the best selling album in history. As one of the only black artists of his time, he lead the way for many black artists to come.
Ever since he was born on August 29, 1958, music was a big influence in Michael’s life. Michael’s father, Joseph Jackson, was a guitarist who had put aside his musical career to support his family. However, he still drove his children into the music world. When brothers Jermaine, Jackie, Tito, Marlon, Randy and Michael showed talent, he started them in a band named the Jackson Five. Michael, six years old at that time, started off as a background member, only playing the conga (a drum-like instrument from Cuba). Later, once Joseph heard Michael sing, he immediately made him the lead singer.

The group ranged from ages nine to fourteen. They group was brought to Berry Gordy’s attention by Bobby Taylor of the Vancouver. Berry Gordy fell in love with Michael. He sang his songs with so much feeling and inspiration and pain. It was like he had gone through everything he was singing about. Right off top, they exploded onto the pop and R&B charts in the 1969 with “I Want You Back”. Diana Ross played a big part in the Jackson 5’s debut. She allowed them to be an opening act for herself and the Supremes concert in Los Angeles, California in 1969. A few day later the group was on their way to stardom. Michael Jackson was born on August 29, 1958. He was one of ten children growing up. Michael and his siblings grew up in a very strict home. He had many conflicts with his father, who was physically and emotionally abusive. Michael’s music career began with the formation of The Jackson 5 in 1963, when he joined his brothers, Jackie, Tito, Marlon, and Jermaine in their already booming musical group. Michael Jackson and His Impact on Pop Music Introduction: There have always been pioneers in every field one can think of, no matter what. These people had a great mentality and also a taste for innovation and creativity, so they happened to have a great influence on what they were doing. This is why now they are called ‘pioneers’. Music-wise, no one can ignore the impact of Michael Jackson’s music on the mainstream music in totality and particularly on the pop culture. He started as one of the singers of a boy band and ended up becoming the greatest entertainer of all time (according to Guinness records).
The night of May 16, 1983, almost 50 million people watched one of the most spectacular performance on television (Scott 1). Jackson won 40 Billboard music awards (Scott 1). His lyrics are powerful he also talks about social causes, human race, and relationships. He inspired millions of people with the music he wrote. Since I was a little girl I listened to his music couple of my favorite songs are “Bad”, “Dirty Diana”, Make that Change”, “You are not alone”, “Billie Jean” “Smooth Criminal”. These songs where inspiring to me growing up to this day I listen to him. My siblings and me loved his movie called “The Moonwalker,” It’s about his music career when he was five years old till he went solo as an artist at the age of thirteen. I would watch his movie repeatedly. My sisters and me would try to follow his dance moves but we were always unsuccessful it was a great memory growing up. I loved the part when he turns himself into a bunny as a little girl I thought that was awesome. I would think I had magic And, I remember telling my mom “I wanted to be like Michael Jackson because he has powers” my mother would just laugh. Though their first single, "Big Boy," never made an appearance on the charts, NPR says that with their new contract with Motown, Michael experienced a first-time share of breaking the record for having the first four singles of any pop group to top the charts. In 1970, the group made their first television appearance on American Bandstand helping them gain a national tour where they would be alongside Diana Ross. Michael, being the lead singer for more than two years, began his preparation for a solo career with Motown in 1971, at age thirteen; "Got to Be There" was Michael's first solo single, igniting his chart-topping streak within his solo career.
