Othello by William Shakespeare, shows the true meaning of struggling in life personally, mentally, and physically. Michael Cassio is faced with numerous challenges that develop after an envious man, Iago, becomes upset over Cassio’s new role as a lieutenant. As a result of Iago being devious and vengeful, he develops a plan to destroy the marriage of his enemy, Othello and ruin Cassio’s life and reputation in the process. Cassio is naive to the fact that he is being targeted by Iago and tries to regain his position back after he suffers the loss of it. By seeking the help of the general’s wife, Cassio naively plays into Iago’s devious plan to destroy his life. As a result of Cassio becoming Lieutenant, Iago, a Venetian soldier envied him and went to great lengths with deceitful planning to destroy him. After Iago gets him drunk, during the celebration of Othello’s marriage, Cassio ends up in a fight with Roderigo, and then with Montano, who was just trying to calm him down. “I used to recognize myself, it is funny how reflections change.” (Bay, “Let It Go”, 22-23) Othello then comes out and is furious at the disorder, and as a result, fires Cassio from his position. Othello strips Cassio of his rank for conduct unbecoming of an officer. Othello directly told Cassio not to drink too much, and to keep order. Cassio, manipulated by Iago did drink too much and chaos ensued as a result. “All my life, you stood by me, when no one else was ever behind me. All these lights, they cannot blind me. With your love, nobody can drag me down.” (One Direction, “Drag Me Down”, 11-16) Cassio would enjoy the song Drag Me Down by One Direction and Let It Go by James Bay because the lyrics represent the strength that he had to keep moving forward after he had been stripped of his title of Lieutenant by Othello from drinking, which he does not do, and he is usually …show more content…

Once Othello recovers from his jealous fit, Iago tells him of the meeting he has planned with Cassio. He instructs Othello to hide nearby and watch as Iago extracts from Cassio the story of his affair with Desdemona. While Othello stands out of earshot, Iago coerces Cassio for information about Bianca, causing Cassio to laugh and confirm Othello’s suspicions. “Where did I go wrong?
