Listening skills are necessary to hear out the client’s and make them feel as though they are understood. General social skills are also important in helping the client can feel safe and comfortable. Overall becoming a mental health counselor can be a rewarding career choice. This profession offers good salaries and flexibility with work location and schedule. There can be downsides to this job; it can be dangerous and stressful. If choosing this career, a person will need strong skills including empathy, communication, social skills, and great listening skills.
