Quality and Leadership Expectations are two examples of how Medtronic as an organization accomplishes its mission, vision, and goals. Medtronic has achieved becoming a word provider of medical products through diligence and emphasis in quality. Quality Begins With Me is the Medtronic adopted motto and a badge card must be carried by every employee while on the job. The Quality Begins With Me badge card emphasizes quality patient-focused practices at all times. To be courageous, accountable, and preventative when an individual sees something that might hinder quality of the product or service provided to the patient. Medtronic responds to regulations and directives from external stake holders such as governmental bodies by being proactive towards federal government regulations and by internal record monitoring. Medtronic does not leave anything to chance and as a company, likes to stay ahead of governmental regulations. The federal government has announced that medical device companies will soon have to disclose any transfer of value between the company and external customers. Transfer of value is seen as anything that can persuade a physician or customer to use the medical device company’s product over a competitor’s product due to personal gain. Before the federal government announced that medical device companies would have to provide transparency documentation between the company and customers. Medtronic took action and developed and implemented transparency practices in all aspects of customer relations. Now every time a surgeon or external customer is approached for a consultation, the meeting must be recorded and every possible form of transfer of value must be documented and recorded. The Medtronic Meeting Planning Restorative Therapies Group in Fort Worth, Texas is very effective at task completion, because departmental management embrace an environment of team work and self-monitoring. Although management is present at all times and is very approachable. The Meeting Planning Senior Manager recognizes that there are several ways to completing a task and every individual has a different problem solving process. As long as tasks are completed efficiently and follow all Medtronic task related Standard Operating Procedures. Every team member is trusted to complete assigned tasks in be best most efficient way that works for the individual team member. The Meeting Planning Lead oversees the Bio-skills and Shipping and Receiving department. The Meeting Planning Team Lead depends a lot on the autonomy and self-monitoring of the shipping and receiving crew, because he himself is also responsible for surgeon interaction and bio-skills course management. The Team Lead cannot constantly monitor every individual within the shipping and receiving and bio-skills teams. Just like the Senior Manager, the team lead heavily relies on the autonomy of individuals reporting to him or her. Team members are trusted and expected to complete daily task on their own with minimal supervision.
