The legalization of Medical and Recreational Marijuana in the state of Michigan, so law enforcement has more time to focus on more important things such as the Opiate epidemic and Heroin use state wide.
In 2008 Michigan legislation passed a bill allowing the use of Medical Marijuana in the state of Michigan. Since then The Michigan Medical Marijuana Program took effect in 2009 and raised a lot of questions about the legality and of people taking advantage of the program, since federal law made no such allowances. Not to mention the legality of such dispensaries you see spread across our great state.
In 2008 as reported by the (Detroit News) the number of identification cards for patients in the program totaled 96,408, according to the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. That compares with 119,470 patients in 2011, and 118,368 in 2013. That sure seems like a lot of patients!
Michigan has a population of 9,935,116 so around 2 percent of the population has a valid Medical Marijuana card at any given point. So really isn’t that many. …show more content…
