Mechanical Engineering

Engineers are artists, their job is to create wonders that make life easier. This career of being artisans is only made possible by problem solving skills and amazing imaginations to create everything that people take for granted like hot running water that individuals have access to at all times, big metal boxes that use explosives as propulsion to travel at breakneck speeds down the thousands of miles of road that were made by the engineers, through the paving equipment and the chemical formula of the asphalt. Without engineers mankind would still be in the dark ages. Using horses to travel bumpy dirt roads that only are there because the travelers walked by thousands of times. There are eleven basic types of engineering each with their own subcategories that the careers specialize in. The one that interests me the most, mechanical engineering, utilizes multiple categories of engineering but mostly focuses on moving parts. Because mechanical engineering uses more concepts of the other sub-categories of engineering than any other, it is a very flexible career that no employers can go without (Constant). This article is all about engineering and gives a decent overview of most of its branches and fundamentals. In an personal interview with Doug Lucht he talks about why mechanical engineering is a great job to go into. Doug works for an HVAC company (heating, air conditioning, humidity control and such). Growing up on a farm, Doug liked to take things apart to see how they worked and loved finding out. Knowing how things work is a huge part of engineering, so without even knowing it, he wanted to be an engineer. In high school his physics teacher told him that he should be an engineer and he thought he meant a train engineer, but ... ... middle of paper ... ... its base. Other helpful classes might include Welding, Woodworking, Drafting and Computer Programming. These classes would help an engineer in his day-to-day work of creation and building. In conclusion, mechanical engineers have a career in which there are many artisans, mathematicians, and thinkers. Without them we would have little. They have to work hard to become great. They must endure years of school and apprenticeship along with a grueling test to reach the status of a professional. They make a reasonable salary, and their own products bring new tools to their field. Works Cited Constant, Kristen P. "Engineering." World Book Student. World Book, 2014. Web. 18 Apr. 2014.
