In the play Measure For Measure by William Shakespeare many twist and turns are made to create the plot of the play. The play is a comical relief play meaning that the play will end in multiple marriages, and throughout the play there will be random places where the scene will bring back the attention of the people in the audience who were drinking alcohol beverages. The play has five major characters along with few other minor characters who develop the plot of the play as well. The main characters of Measure For Measure are Lord Angelo, Duke Vincentio, Isabella, Claudio and Lucio. All five characters develop the plot but not fully, a few other characters such as Escalus, Provost, Friar Peter and Thomas, Elbow, Pompey, Mariana and Julietta. All of these characters create the twisted, plot of Measure For Measure. Without all of the characters the plot of the play would not be as interesting, the play would be short and non-eventful. The main characters all change towards the end of the play from being the good guy to the bad guy and vise versa, this is what helps develop the play's plot. The play ended with four marriages, Lord Angelo married to Mariana, Lucio and the women who had his child, Claudio and Julietta, and Duke Vincentio who purposed to Isabella. No one is executed except for Barnardine because cutting off his head was apart of the duke's plan to expose Lord Angelo. The end of the play was the resolution was just clearing the problem up with marriages. To conclude; the play Measure For Measure showed that the truth will be spoken eventually. Measure For Measure is also known as a dark comedy because in the comical relief it was about people being hanged or punished because of prostitution or being drunk.
