Meaningful use helped increase in implementation of healthcare information technology because meaningful use specifically requires the use of technology. It uses computer systems, reporting and etc. In order for any electronic exchange to happen it needs the use of healthcare information technology. Meaningful use helped with the quality, safety and efficiency of the healthcare system. It is a way doctors and patients can engage together and have physicians improve coordination care and public healthcare. The doctors have an electronic system that allows them to exchange clinical decisions and support from other physicians. With meaningful use, doctors use data sharing which with the help of healthcare information technology can be shared with other healthcare centers. This is called the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act, or HITECH for short. With the government’s goal in place for a national health information network, using meaningful use will make every physician use EHRs. Resulting in, which the governments hopes for, an improved quality of care with patient safety and lower costs. The Information Technology Policy committee first published the first draft on June 2009. Having an interoperability technology system the users can use e-prescribing, communicate and discuss decisions with one another, and have health information to exchange with each other. As most of us can recall, before meaningful use was in place, doctors would fax files of patients to other physicians if they were needed. Now with just a few seconds and some clicks it is faster for other physicians to get your records. As stated above, Electronic Health Record has many benefits. Allowing all these different information technology system to communicate and exchange data we improve diagnostics and care coordination.
