There are many similarities and differences in the writings recorded for us in Four Gospels. Let’s just take some time and narrow it down to the book of Matthew and Luke in particular. Specifically we are going to look at the similarities and differences in what was recorded for the birth of Christ. Here are some of the similarities between the book of Matthew and Luke. Jesus is born in Bethlehem during the reign of King Herod but spends the days of his youth in Nazareth. Matthew and Luke both note that Jesus belonged to the family of David. The Bible tells us, “He was of the house and lineage of David.”
Mary and Joseph are mentioned in both of the books. Mary was the virgin mother of Jesus and Joseph was the legal father of Jesus. She …show more content…

An angel appeared to Joseph in a dream telling him to take the child and his mother to Egypt because Herod seeks to destroy the baby boys. Luke explains why Joseph and his family must travel from Nazareth to Bethlehem. Joseph went out of Nazareth into Judea unto the city of David to pay their taxes. In Matthew we see a genealogy running from Abraham to Jesus. However in the book of Luke we see the genealogy be presented from Jesus all the way back to Adam. This is mainly to relate with the people the books are being written to. The most discussed character in the birth of Christ from the book of Matthew is Joseph. His role as Jesus’ earthly father is discussed. The most discussed character in the birth of Christ from the book of Luke is the Virgin Mary. The legitimacy of her virgin birth is explained. Jesus is given the additional name “Immanuel” in the book of Matthew. He is given the name, “The Son of the Most High God” in the book of Luke. The birth of Christ is presented to the wealthy and the powerful in the book of Matthew and He is excepted and worshipped.
