Martin Luther King Jr.'s Letter From A Birmingham Jail

Over the years, many groups of people have been denied basic human rights just based on simple things such as gender or race. These acts go against the UDHR, or the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The UDHR is a document of the equal and inalienable rights/freedoms all people are born with. One statement from the UDHR that was disregarded is the right to an equal education. An example from not too long ago is the story of Malala Yousafzai who was shot for trying to get an education because she is a girl. Article 26 of the UDHR states: “Everyone has the right to an education…” The right that was violated is article 26, the right to an education and article 18, the right to freedom of thought which was violated after “Two Taliban assassins boarded and fired point-blank shots at her [Malala]” She was on a bus for school and shot just for having an education. This connects to the UDHR because it says that education shall be free for at least the basics of learning and The Taliban is trying to scare girls away
Unfortunately, the Taliban isn’t the only group that does this and it is a big problem in the world. But, every year Malala chooses a place where human rights are being denied to travel there to help fight for their rights to make our world a better place. Something the Taliban and others can learn from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is that everyone is free and equal, no matter whom you are, it shows that what they are doing is very wrong and something needs to change.
