a. Lee’s Tae Kwon Do Academy would be serving West Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens and Riviera Beach. There are as many 13.4 percent of the population that is under the poverty line within Palm Beach County in the 2010 U.S. Census. We are targeting the students that don’t have the access to an emotional and whole child curriculum of martial arts. Majority of the time we see that the students that are in and around the poverty line don’t have the same emotional support of the middle class to higher class families do. At least with this kind program we can instill some knowledge that would transform a young child for the better.

Self-Discipline
i. Martial arts help instill mental focus in your child, giving her the ability to concentrate on a task and see it through to its conclusion. The discipline that is taught in the dojo in regard to uniforms, customs and techniques often translates into other areas of life, including school and household chores.
f. Respect
i. Martial arts are all about respect. Punching, kicking, throwing and locking are all secondary to the respect that is shown form the moment you walk into a dojo. Children learn to bow to the masters who came before them, and to their current instructors. They also learn to treat other students as they wish to be treated. Quality martial arts instructors press upon the respect issue regularly and instruct students to practice respect for self, parents, teachers and peers at every opportunity.
g. Self Confidence
i. A child who is involved in martial arts is generally a child who is confident in herself. Working through a martial art and the belt ranking system gives a child measurable goals to follow that are realistic to attain. The sense of accomplishment a child feels by mastering a new technique or graduating to a new belt follows him everywhere he goes.

There are many aspects of Japanese culture and society that make it one of the most well-liked countries in the world today, at least according to the Anholt-GfK Roper Nation Brands Index. The technological innovations stemming from the country and the reputation of companies such as Honda, Toyota, Nintendo, and Sony make for an international focus on Japan’s industrial prowess. Added to that is the ever-rising popularity of manga and anime, and altogether, they form a strong nationalist feeling in Japan, yet entirely different from the nationalism of the wartime period. However, there is another facet of Japanese culture rooted in historical significance that evokes an alternate sense of pride within the population: martial arts. It is important not only to look at the physical aspects of these martial arts tradition, but the mental ones as well. Through the historical background of types of Japanese martial arts such as karate-do, jujutsu, aikido, and kenjutsu, the progression of the arts and a break from their origins, and eventually their place in Japanese sports and society today (karate, judo, kendo, and sumo), we will see how Japanese martial arts shifted back and forth between military and physical philosophy, and pacifist and Zen-like philosophy.

mind. In a general sense, many view martial arts as a sport that involves hurting one another. On
I was able to apply these concepts in real life when I also started working with children. I was a student aide at a child care center for infants and toddlers and volunteered and shadowed OTs at a karate clinic for children with disabilities. This further put my abilities to the test to interact with children since it was on an ongoing basis. Seeing children progress through each developmental stage of life felt meaningful on a greater level. It was a wonderful accomplishment when an infant would learn to crawl, a toddler would have a bowel movement successfully in the toilet, or when an adolescent would execute a strong and skillful kata (structured pattern of movements and techniques) during his or her karate belt test. On a bigger scale, the daily interactions I had with the children at a young age helped lay the foundation for their future development, and I was happy to have served as a teacher and role model. These experiences and challenges validated that I enjoyed connecting with people and seeing them grow in emotional, physical, cognitive, and social development. Watching others accomplish their own developmental milestones made me feel like I had a
To a person not conversant with this art, Jujitsu may be considered as a foul or derogatory term in Japanese. However, Jujitsu us one of the most effective and deadly forms of martial arts taught today. Unique among other forms of combat, Jujitsu holds the position of a “parent art”, of from which other forms of martial arts such as Aikido, Judo and several Karate styles were extracted. Jujitsu is a combination of all levels of combat. It incorporates chokes, striking, grappling, nerve and pressure point attacks, joint locks, redirection of momentum and throws.
Children with autism face many unique challenges in everyday life. The challenges are multifaceted on social, physical, and emotional levels. Interestingly, traditional martial arts training is uniquely positioned to address all these areas of need. The traditional martials arts all have three basic components in training an individual: physical training for the body, mental training to discipline the mind, and spiritual training for the enrichment of one’s attitude about life.
taking the power of knowing pressure points, feeling the power of breaking a board and much more. It is now time to bow out, and carry on with the rest of the day, every martial artist ends each class with saying "thank-you", Gam Sa Ham-Ni-Da.
“To conquer frustration, one must remain intensely focused on the outcome, not the obstacles.” I still remember this quote from Within I Rise by T.F. Hodge because this specific quote has helped me through my long and winding journey toward the black-belt. It started with my friend in fifth grade showing me what he learned in karate class the day before, and me asking my mother if I could join. My brother and I went to our first class and I instantly fell in love with the sparring, grappling, fighting combinations, self-defense, and of course, learning to use nunchucks. It was not long before I had my eye on the black-belt, but there were many obstacles ahead. Less than one percent of all students at my karate school end up getting to
MMA or Mixed martial arts is a full contact combat sport that allows the use of both striking and grappling skills, both standing and on the mat, from a selection of other combat sports. Numerous mixed style contests were held throughout Europe, the Pacific Rim, and Japan during the early 1900s. The combat sport of vale tudo that came from Brazil from the 1920s was brought to the U.S by the Gracie family in 1993 with the founding of the Ultimate Fighting Championship .

Philosophy is one of the most important aspects of any traditional martial art. The philosophies of many martial arts such as Taekwondo, Kung Fu, and Karate are based off of Confucianism and principles from Confucius’s The Analects. Although traditional martial arts contain philosophical teachings, modern martial arts have lost their meaning, or “art.” The popularity of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) has contributed greatly to the loss of meaning in modern martial arts. By examining the philosophy’s importance in The Analects, one can see how martial arts is more than a physical set of skills.
Though Bruce was an accomplished actor, he had many other talents that made his even more memorable. He was a skilled dancer, who had won a cha-cha competition in Hong Kong and studied ballet. Upon first moving to America, he taught dance and martial arts to help bring a steady cash flow. Dance did not simply provide a paycheck for Bruce but it also helped to make his fighting style more original. With that, he was able to create his own fighting style known as Jeet Kune Do, this was a modified version of Wing Chun that included other techniques like fencing and Kung Fu. Bruce Lee said, Jeet Kune Do was mainly focused on ways to avoid a hit. This was revolutionary in the fighting world and on screen. Bruce Lee paved a way for martial artists and Asian actors, he was a hit in Hollywood. It did not stop there though, he also owned 3 different martial arts schools, two in California and one in in Seattle, Washington. Bruce was a dancer, instructor, skilled fighter and actor but most importantly was a devoted husband to Linda Emery and a father to a young boy named Brandon and a girl named Shannon. His daughter, Shannon now speaks publicly about her father. She says he was a hero to many people, especially her. She is an actress, martial artist and was lucky enough to learn her father’s style Jeet Kune Do under one of Bruce’s students. Unfortunately, Brandon Lee is not here with us anymore. He thought so highly of his father; he followed in Bruce’s footsteps spending eight years in Hong Kong, becoming an actor, specializing in martial arts and had died young and tragically. Brandon had a hard time coping with the loss of his father and being the son of Bruce Lee and living up to the expectations. Brandon had a hard time in school continuously dropping in and out of school. Brandon wanted to honor his father

Karate was a lot of hard work for a child, but it paid off. I learned a bunch of valuable lessons that would help me in the long run. Karate taught me self-defense, dependability, focus, leadership skills, goal setting, and physical fitness.
Discipline plays a key part in education. Respect from your students will make the classroom a better atmosphere. Rules should be established on the first day. Rules should be a thoughtful process so they can be carried out to be affective, but logical consequences. We do not want the students self esteem to be damaged.
