Recommended: Symbolism in the ancient mariner

Marine art is defined as any form of art that portrays the main inspiration from the sea. This piece of art has a three-dimensional line because it looks like the picture is in motion with the waves getting higher and higher, while moving the boat. The form of this picture would be the height of the waves that are sharpening at the tip, so sharp that if touched it looked like it would cut you. I think that the artist implied this into the picture because it shows how unbalanced things could be in life. When looking at this piece of art someone would describe the intensity really dull and dark. There is no doubt about what is happening here in the picture. This person is going through so much deterioration. It is like the person could be saved, but chooses not to attempt on even trying to survive. This person has lost hope and has given up. Nothing can reach his attention. All the battles that are shown do not matter anymore. Death does not have any effect on his emotions. The picture illustrates a life or death situation, and by the careless gestures it shows that death does not scare him. Maybe the artist has had someone die that is really important in their life. By viewing the art work, the man on the boat is all alone, and in the water is blood as if someone had just been killed. This picture could be an example in real life situations. There is always so much going on, and sometimes more than people can handle. It is not easy taking a loss to someone important or having to deal with tragedies in life. It makes someone’s like feel so unbalanced and shaky, as shown in the picture with the man on the boat tipping over by the waves. The four men, the oiler (Billie), the injured captain, the cook, and the correspondent are each in their own way battling the sea as each wave crest threatens to topple the dinghy. “The Open Boat” reflects human nature’s incredible ability to persevere under life-and-death situations, but it also shares a story of tragedy with the death of the oiler. It is human nature to form a brotherhood with fellow sufferers in times of life threatening situations to aid in survival. Weak from hunger and fatigue, the stranded men work together as a community against nature to survive their plight and the merciless waves threatening to overtake the boat. The brotherhood bond shared between the men in “The Open Boat” is evident through the narrator’s perspective, “It would be difficult to describe the subtle brotherhood of men that was here established on the seas.
