“Monroe was undoubtedly one of the most glamorous, popular, and controversial movie stars ever to smile from the silver screen.” (Marilyn Monroe American). Marilyn Monroe had an all-too-brief life but in that time span, she made a career many could only dream of. Despite her childhood, insecurities, and many disfunctional marriages, Marilyn went against all odds and become the world’s most known model and actress. (Marilyn Monroe Biography). To some people she was a gifted comedienne, to others a sexual joke, but with no doubt, Marilyn staked a claim for herself in film history as the biggest of the “dumb” blonds. (Marilyn Monroe American). There is no doubt Marilyn made her mark in Hollywood but many may not see the negative affects all the glitz and glam actually has on someone. Complex or troubled may better explain how she felt under the pressure of it all. She grew up in a loveless home, had a potential personality disorder and became the most iconic women even after her death. The beautiful, vibrant women portrayed in photos and movies may seem like she had the perfect upbringing but sadly that is not the case. Behind closed doors, Marilyn hides many secrets. As a child, Monroe used to playact. “It meant I could live in a more interesting world than the one around me,” Marilyn once had said. (Marilyn Monroe International). Overcoming a difficult childhood was not an easy task. She never met her father, once speculated as Clark Gable but there is no real evidence Gable even met or knew of Gladys, her mother. Many different assumptions have been made to as of why Marilyn had this condition. She suffered from pre-performance anxiety that even made her physically ill sometimes. She was often late to film sets making it a typical thing. While filming Something’s Got to Give her tardiness caused her removal from the film. Many say it was caused by the unstable upbringing of her childhood but others speculate it was in her head. In the 19th century mental disorders were a promanent condition for many well-known people. Andy Warhol embraced his mental illness as an inspiration for his creativity in his work. If Marilyn were to have this mental illness it would not have been irregular. Marilyn yearned for love and stability but often lashed out at people she cared about. (Marilyn Monroe suffered). Many dis-functional marriages could have triggered her possible mental illness. The feeling of being wanted came from a very young age for Marilyn since she was raised by many different families and orphaneges. She had an embarrassing need for love that millions of fans could not give her. Acting could have came so easily to her because she was never the real her.
