Manifest Destiny In the nineteenth century “Manifest Destiny” was a slogan and it is a wide belief. In the American history, many people believe that it was widespread and the expansion of all over the coast from east to the Pacific Ocean. People from the North where the population was growing, crowded and have economic instability believed “Manifest Destiny” will help in resolving this issues and also make urban areas less crowded. They also said the expansion will help to extend railroads and help trade from east to west. Expansion to west all the way to the pacific ocean will give access to the sea route through the pacific ocean and it will help open new trade routes …show more content…

When I first looked at the painting before reading the historical background of “Manifest Destiny” my understanding from the painting was completely different. I was trying to assume the painting as a fairy tale flying concept. When I read the historic idea about “Manifest Destiny” and then look at the painting it gives me the feeling of self-explanatory of each and every detail in the painting. The way I understood the painting now is the fairy tale godmother as America and it wants to spread from east to west providing along with the people of America and the natural resources to provide more opportunities for the people. It also depicts details of spreading the existing infrastructure from the east which is represented by a bright light to the darker area which is west. She (America) is lightning the west by carrying the knowledge on one hand, which is depicted as carrying the bible. She is seen carrying the telegraph wire on the other hand which is the latest technology, which depicts as spreading the technology with the other hand. All the people, cows, farmers, railroads, settlers are the symbols of showing new paths for the immigrants and the people of America to expand and conquer the west side to make America strong and give more opportunities for people with different trade, farming options and also making less
